  • Antique Seth Thomas “Yorktown” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas 100 year old reissue, the “Yorktown”, ca 1905. Resembling in every way the carved case clocks made by many clockmakers in the mid 1800’s, Seth Thomas sold a number of carved half column, carved splat, clocks. Some were weight powered, some spring such as this model. Interestingly the full label on the backboard, is overpasted with the Seth Thomas label, leading me to wonder if the clocks were not made by another maker. I cannot find any references about the Putnam and Yorktown in the Bulletins. The movement is 8 day, striking a cathedral gong. Gong base and pendulum bob are brass. Mahogany veneered case is 36 inches high, never cleaned, minor veneer chipping around the bottom, excellent carved splat, half columns, and paw feet. Metal dial pan is 12 inch square, paint very satisfactory, and signed by Seth Thomas. Great painted tablet with some flaking of the blue border. Inner scene of village, church, children, etc. is not flaking. Key lock door. Ly-Seth Thomas #1000.

  • Antique Seth Thomas “World” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas wall clock, “World”, C. 1885. This is another clock that has been in storage for several years. The 32″ rosewood case is dirty and the wood looks dry. You know what has to be done to correct that. The gold around the lower glass is pretty good; brass bezel sure needs to be polished. I hardly know what to say about the dial, it looks dirty, yet has very little paint loss which is most unusual. The clock has a great 15 day movement, No. 40, with two large springs and is time only. The Geneva locks are in the bottom of the case. Some people have a difficult time figuring them out, so they remove them. It has a nice ST brass bob with the circles, the hands look fine, and there is a nice label in the case. I couldn’t get it to run but I feel confident it just needs to be cleaned and oiled. When I had the dial off hooking the pendulum I didn’t notice anything wrong with the movement. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 150.

  • Antique Seth Thomas “World” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas hanging clock, “World”, ca 1909. Another 15 day , time only wall clock, with a large double spring movement, Graham dead beat escapement, and it is running.32 inch mahogany case has a factory stamp on the back, “July 1910”. Brass beat scale and pendulum. 12 inch zinc dial with a seconds dial that has lost most of the paint. A little flaking on the time dial. You can probably live with the 12 inch dial flaking but not the seconds dial. You may as well paint both to have a first rate clock. You will need to polish the brass bezel, repaint or put new gold leaf on the strip around the lower glass, and the clock should approach a $800-$1000 value. Ly-Seth Thomas No.497.

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas “World”, long drop regulator, C. 1885. Old oak veneer case is32″ high, great wood grain matches, yet is different at every turn.
