About the Seth Thomas “Hudson” Clock

Introducing the Seth Thomas “Hudson” Clock, a classic timepiece from the renowned American clockmaker Seth Thomas Clock Co. This antique clock, produced around 1925, boasts a 19-inch square oak case with a depth of 5 inches and a clean finish. The dial, while possibly repainted, retains its original hands. The clock houses a robust 30-day, double-wind time-only movement identified by the signature 86T. A label on the back authenticates the piece.

Another variant of this model, made around 1921, features a heavy solid golden oak case and an original painted metal dial with some fading and toning. The hands are original, with the minute hand counterweighted. This clock measures 19 inches square.

Fast forward to 1937, and we find another version of the Seth Thomas “Hudson” Clock in mahogany. This large wall clock is in nice original condition, with an old finish that shows some light crazing. The painted dial has a few small chips, and the glass is fine. The 86AK movement, dated “37-1”, still retains its winding stops but may require minor service.

Each of these Seth Thomas “Hudson” Clocks offers a unique blend of quality craftsmanship, timeless design, and historical significance, making them valuable additions to any collection of antique American clocks.

The heavy solid golden oak case has been nicely refinished and is in very good condition. The large twin-spring 86T movement, with deadbeat escapement, ticks nicely but the hand setting is too loose so adjustment is needed. There is an old patina on the brass pendulum bob and beat scale. The original painted metal dial is just a bit faded and toned with a few small flakes. The hands are original, the minute hand is counterweighted. 19″ square

The mahogany case has lost its original finish. The movement is a signed #50 which the movement catalogue shows as a 15 day. However, the dial says the clock is 30 days so this may be a marriage, although the movement fits both the case and the dial.
