About the Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 61” Clock

Introducing the Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 61,” a timepiece produced by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company around 1913 and 1921. This clock model is distinguished by its mahogany case, adorned with inlay, and its Westminster chime mechanism that rings on the quarter hours.

The No. 61 clock from 1913 features a 5-bell Westminster chime and has undergone a refinishing process, resulting in an attractive and well-maintained appearance. The movements have been serviced to ensure proper functioning. For reference, one may consult Tran Duy Ly’s book on Seth Thomas, published in the third edition, specifically pages 162, figures 425 and 426.

A slightly later version of the No. 61 clock was produced around 1921, featuring a 3-trillium Westminster chime mechanism and rods instead of bells. This model has been in storage for some time but remains functional. The case retains its original finish with minor crazing that can be polished out. Some screws have been replaced during servicing of the chime movement, and the silvered brass dial exhibits minor scratches and oxidation. This rod version is slightly less expensive than the bell version, standing at approximately 13.3 inches in height.

Another variant of the No. 61 clock, also from 1921, features an 8-day, 4-rod Westminster chime mechanism and a large mahogany case with an inlaid round top. This model retains its original surface with minor dings, and while the silvered dial is tarnished, the convex glass remains in good condition. Both
