Uses ST reliable double spring time movement. Has original backboard and original full round rear label (with losses). Note the dial was re-papered around 25 years ago, and brushed over with some stain to add a look of age to it. The spun brass case is in generally good condition, with some small dents, especially around the circumference where the body meets the backboard. Height 11 inches

Seth Thomas “Buffalo”, ca 1886.

One of the companyÕs large series of clocks named for cities. The early models, made in the l870Õs and 1880Õs, were generally made of walnut or rosewood and had very distinctive case designs. When “kitchen clocks” became poplar in the 1890Õs and later, Seth Thomas fell in lock step with other clock makers and lowered their standards on the city series line. Primarily made of oak and using cheaper pendulum bobs, bezels, etc. they made the clocks for the masses who could afford a $10 to $20 mantle clock. This walnut case has been cleaned, dial repainted, but it is all original with the fancy swirled Seth Thomas nickel pendulum, nickel gong base, and dial ring. Spindles on railing are brass and all intact. Most of a black label inside, hands are replacements. Movement is 8 day, hourstrike on the Cathedral Bell, has an alarm in place. The door glass is originalto this clock. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 169.

Like the above clock this was purchased at a retail shop in Connecticut. The price was $985 in 1994. The shop had refinished the case and inserted a tablet from a small Waltham banjo (does look good!!). Although the dial surface is original, with touch up, the numerals and chapter have been re-blacked. The label on this clock is exceptional; has original movement and hands and is in running order. Note this is the first version with straight turned side columns (later were tapered and the clock was an inch taller). Height 16 inches

This was one of the city series offered by Seth Thomas. The only veneer damage is on the base where some small pieces are missing. The ebonized areas of the case will need some touchup to hide scraps and dings. The original painted dial is very nice with some minor loss around the mounting screws and one small chip on the side. The tablet and hands are original. Both finials have lost their tips and been filed smooth. The label inside is very clean. Height 14 inches

Condition: Rosewood veneered case is in nice clean condition, note OG base has been re-veneered with mahogany. The sides of the case are now down to bare wood as the original finish was stripped off. Catalog Description: C.1924, Seth Thomas Clock Co., “Drop Octagon 10 Inch”, 8-day wall timepiece (mixed lot). Condition: Refinished oak in very nice clean condition. Original painted dial is clean with a little wear to some of the numbers and the chapter ring. Hands are original. Movement is not original to the case, even though it was made by Seth Thomas in 1941, and it lines up with the dial OK. ST pendulum, but there is no suspension wire. Height 21.5 inches [54.61 cm]
