An unusual crystal regulator with a high book value. This one will not bring top dollar for the “rich gold finish” is gone. A tenderfoot cleaned the gilt off leaving the copper base. The brass sections, not many of them, are fine. A great looking clock but it needs a good finish. The case is 15.5″ high, complete and very good except for the finish. Four beveled glasses, two very good, one with a miniscule corner tic, one with a good size corner chip. Good size being about 1/2″ by 1/8″. Signed 8 day movement, hanging Cathedral gong, imitation mercury pendulum (it is now copper color, I guess to match the case), and a winding key. Perfect porcelain dial and hands, dial is signed, painted loops of flowers. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 742.

in very good condition, with embossed bronze band around the top and bottom (slightly different from earlier no. 5 with bronze applique). The gilding is rubbed off in several spots, but is still reasonably bright. Heavy beveled glass is all excellent, and porcelain dial with poly-chrome wreath décor is perfect. 8-Day movement carries S-T trademark and strikes on a cathedral gong. Height 14″ Reserve $450

Some of the company’s description of this case was, “bronze top and base, raised gold ornaments, gold urn and body”. The top and base are tarnished/discolored. I believe it will polish up nicely if you will spend some time. The “raised gold ornaments” look great, they are not discolored, same with the urn and feet. There are four perfect beveled glasses, a little grimy around the edges of the glass for I doubt they have ever been cleaned. Excellent imitation mercury pendulum and a correct two prong key. Perfect one piece porcelain dial is signed, and the hands are correct. 8 day round movement is also signed, clean and running, and striking half hours on a hanging gong. It could be a near perfect clock after some cleaning. We seldom see a ST crystal regulator this nice. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 719.

Seth Thomas-Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 3”, ca 1877.

This is probably the most original Fashion I have ever owned. It remained with one family since purchased new. The case has never been cleaned or refinished. The finial tips were gone and I had them retipped. Some catalogs show the tips flat on top, some pointed. If you don’t like these put a point on them. The black label is on the back of the case, it is generally inside the case. The pendulum, key, finials, glass, dial, all look to be original, and the clock is running. These clocks are not uncommon, and identical cases have been seen with the name, “King Jewett”, made for L. B. Price.

This is an extra nice model with decorative metal ornaments; the case has been refinished to a golden color. This clock does not appear in the Seth Thomas clock catalog, however, there is a wonderful label on the back that notes that this model was made ‘expressly’ for the L. B. Price Co. of Kansas City, Mo. The tablet is original along with the pendulum. Although the dial has some stains from the stripper, this is still a very attractive clock. Height.293/4″

Someone said that the sweetest chimes on any clocks in the world are those produced during the 19th Century by the Seth Thomas Clock Company. Their quarter-chiming clocks play several different melodies including this, the best known- Westminster Chimes. The name derives from the chiming pattern in the tower of Westminster Abbey in London home of the venerable “Big Ben”. Played on patented tuned rods, this clock fills the room with its pleasant tones every fifteen minutes around the clock. This is their model No. 59 made around 1922 and including the ST movement No. 89 with chime mechanism No. 119A (for those who care about the stats). For the rest of us, the lovely chimes on this clock will calm and sooth us even after a hectic, pressure-filled day. The Mahogany case retains its original finish and the silvered convex dial is in excellent condition. The movement was recently serviced, oiled and adjusted for good running condition. That date is stamped on the back of the case. About 80 percent of the label is inside but is very dark and beat up, as usual. Very dark walnut case, never cleaned, has lots of smoke accumulated. The case is complete, all original, has no breaks or repairs, and has the original door hook on the side. Original glass, pendulum bob, gong, painted dial, hands, and dial rings. The dial is signed, it is dirty, and has a couple of tiny paint chips. The 8 day movement is running briskly. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 561.

The case retains its original finish with some wear at the base and left side return. The paper dial is original with some wear. The hands are original. The stenciled door glass is original. The movement is signed. The Seth Thomas label has an overpasted label (worn) describing the Winward’s patent. The patent modifies the movement to be a time and alarm movement which deploys an alternating alarm bell strike and hour gong strike when the alarm time is reached. This process can be activated or terminated by use of a lever mounted on top of the case.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. city series, “Newark”, ca 1899. There

are differences in the two Newark’s which at first glance isn’t obvious. The bases are different. The side trim is permanently attached to the case body on this clock, but on the other the trim is attached to and is a part of the door. The main difference is the strike mechanism. This one doesn’t strike the hours, just alarms with 2 hammers, one hits coil gong, other hits brass bell, simultaneously and very loud. There is a shut off lever on top of the case, believe me you will find it quickly. This model is referred to as the “Woods” alarm. The paper dial is original as is the old glass, and the pendulum. Movement is 8 day and running. Ly-Seth Thomas No.212.

8 day, hourly strike on a Cathedral Gong, alarms on a brass bell, running fine. The only reason this clock canÕt be called original is the addition of a new paper dial, on the old zinc pan. The rest of the clock is great. It has the deluxe Seth Thomas brass pendulum and hanger, and the brass dial rings. Clock is running and striking. This is a really nice 22″ walnut case, with the usual rubs and dings, in other words not perfect but plenty nice. There is a nice black label inside. This model, although having the kitchen clock look, is really one of their early City Series clocks that were made with better workmanship and materials. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 212.

22 inches high walnut case has considerable cuts and designs on top and sides. What makes this clock unusual is the Woods alarm, which is wound weekly and only alarms once each 24 hours. It is a regular Seth Thomas movement, strikes a cathedral gong, alarms on a brass bell. Pendulum bob and dial ring is also brass. The glass is original as is everything on the clock.
