Title: The Seth Thomas “Eton” Clock Model: A Collector’s Delight
The Seth Thomas “Eton” clock, introduced in the late 19th century, is an exquisite mantel clock that continues to captivate antique clock collectors today. This model is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship and design ingenuity of the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company.
The Eton clock boasts a distinctive case made primarily from mahogany or walnut, with intricate brass trim adorning its sides. The rectangular case features a pediment-style top, decorated with exquisite floral carvings and a finely crafted brass pendulum bob visible through the glass window. The dial, available in either white enamel or black lacquer, is embellished with Roman numerals and intricate brass hands, adding to its elegant charm.
Produced between 1890 and 1920, the Eton clock model was a popular choice among Victorians seeking quality timepieces for their homes. Its production spanned over three decades, making it relatively common compared to other Seth Thomas models, yet still highly desirable due to its aesthetic appeal and exceptional workmanship.
What makes the Eton clock collectible is not only its beautiful design but also its reliable movement and the prestige associated with the Seth Thomas name. Notable features include a Westminster chime option, allowing the clock to strike on the hour and half-hour, adding an auditory charm to this already visually appealing timepiece.
In addition to its historical significance and timeless design, the Eton clock’s mechanical precision and durability have ensured that many original examples are still in excellent working condition today, making them a sought-after acquisition for antique clock collectors worldwide.

Seth Thomas light brown adamantine mantle clock. I am not sure which model, but may be the “Eton”, ca 1904.
There is a full label on the bottom, too dark to read. The case is 17 inches wide and almost perfect except for some small bruises. Like most all clocks in this big collection it has been cleaned inside and out, gilt metal feet and ornaments repainted, gilt metal bezel and dial cleaned. 8 day strikes a cathedral gong, running. The only negative is there is no back cover. I am sure it is in one of the boxes of parts and pieces. Ly-Seth Thomas #1203 or others very similar.

A pleasant clock for the beginning Seth Thomas collector. In his 3rd Edition Seth Thomas book, Ly prices this clock at $450, our estimate allows for the dial. Height 10 inches
