About the Seth Thomas “Fashion No. 3” Clock

The Seth Thomas-Southern Calendar Clock Co.’s “Fashion No. 3,” manufactured around 1877, presents an exceptional example of this model due to its remarkable preservation. This clock has been in the possession of a single family since its original purchase, with the case retaining its unaltered and untouched condition—never cleaned or refinished. The missing finial tips have been replaced, and while some catalogs depict them flat on top, these feature pointed tips.

The clock’s movement is an 8-day, time and strike spring-driven brass mechanism with a seconds bit, housed within a walnut case. The case exhibits an older finish, and the original painted dials for both time and calendar display are intact. The time dial shows a small area of darkening at 5 o’clock, while the roller dials have aged naturally over time. The original hands remain on the clock, and the door glass appears to be old and possibly original.

Notably, the “Fashion” label on the glass may be a later replacement, but its vibrant condition adds to the clock’s overall appeal. The movement bears the signature of Seth Thomas Clock Co., located in Thomaston, Connecticut. This Fashion No. 3 clock, with its original components and running mechanism, offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a well-preserved piece from the renowned Seth Thomas collection.

Seth Thomas-Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 3”, ca 1877.

This is probably the most original Fashion I have ever owned. It remained with one family since purchased new. The case has never been cleaned or refinished. The finial tips were gone and I had them retipped. Some catalogs show the tips flat on top, some pointed. If you don’t like these put a point on them. The black label is on the back of the case, it is generally inside the case. The pendulum, key, finials, glass, dial, all look to be original, and the clock is running.
