About the Seth Thomas “Hall Clock No. 28” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Hall Clock No. 28” is a distinctive timepiece from the renowned American clockmaker, Seth Thomas Clock Co. While it shares similarities with Hall Clocks No. 28 and No. 33, its exact number may fall between these two due to variations in production.

This impressive clock stands at approximately 97-98 inches high and 23 inches wide, featuring a mahogany case. The clock’s movement is powered by three brass weights, producing the iconic Westminster chime on four cup bells and striking the hours on a large Cathedral Bell (gong).

The dial of the Seth Thomas Hall Clock No. 28 is made from brass, silvered with a polished center section and a dead finish on the outer section, adorned with gilt ornamental lines. The dial measures 15 inches high by 11-1/2 inches wide and includes a lithographed moon disc.

Distinguishing features of this model include slightly different panel designs and finials. Due to their rarity, these Seth Thomas Hall Clocks are seldom seen on the market, often exchanged privately among collectors. As a testament to its historical significance, the Ly-Seth Thomas or Seth Thomas Trade Catalogue from 1909-1910 documents the production of this complete American-made Hall Clock by Seth Thomas.
