About the Seth Thomas “Madeleine” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Madeleine” mantel clock, manufactured around 1890 by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company, showcases an elegant Adamantine veneered design. This particular piece features an eight-day time and strike mechanism, making it a practical addition to any home decor.

The clock’s Adamantine case, while in fair condition, exhibits some wear such as loss on the base, roughness on certain back edges, and damage on the peak of the gable. Despite these imperfections, the original porcelain dial remains pristine. The hands are original, although the minute hand has unfortunately been broken.

Intriguingly, this clock retains its premium ST movement with springs housed in brass cups, a feature that was later replaced in less expensive versions of the “Madeleine” model after approximately 1895. A small label on the back of the case and the model name stenciled on the bottom provide authenticity. Notably, this clock is missing its pendulum. Standing at a height of 11.75 inches, it remains an attractive and historically significant piece in any collection.
