About the Seth Thomas “Office Calendar No. 12” Clock
Introducing the Seth Thomas “Office Calendar No. 12,” a remarkable wall clock manufactured by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, Connecticut around 1892. This timepiece features an eight-day weight drive mechanism and boasts a unique double dial perpetual calendar.
The clock is crafted from cherry and oak, with both versions showcasing excellent condition and original components. The two calendar dials have undergone professional repainting on their original pans, while the hands, hinges, pendulum, and iron weight remain original. Some minor details, such as a slightly darkened calendar wheel or an elongated seconds hole in the time dial, are indicative of its age but do not detract from its overall quality.
The clock stands tall at 48 inches, with both versions featuring painted metal dials and brass pendulum bobs. While some components have been replaced over the years, such as the wooden dial mask and calendar mechanism mounts, the clock retains its original finish in excellent condition, showcasing a lovely patina. This Seth Thomas “Office Calendar No. 12” is an exceptional example of late-19th-century American horology, offering a blend of historical significance and aesthetic appeal for any collector.
