About the Seth Thomas “Office Drop Calendar No. 57” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Office Drop Calendar No. 57” clock, manufactured by the Seth Thomas Sonora Chime Clock Company around 1915, showcases an intricate blend of style and functionality. This timepiece features an 8-day movement and a functioning original chime mechanism that emits the Westminster quarter hour chime on four patented “Sonora” resonated bells.

The clock’s dial is a 6-inch convex silvered piece, displaying some wear that is common for its age. The brass sash with convex glass adds to its vintage charm. The high-grade mahogany case stands at just over 12 inches in height and 17-1/2 inches in width, embodying a design that bridges the gap between tambour and round top styles.

The clock’s case exhibits minor imperfections, with small pieces of veneer missing on each end. These can be easily addressed during repair or may go unnoticed due to their inconspicuous location. The case has not been polished, offering an opportunity for restoration with a product like Nu-Life or similar polish. Despite its untouched state, the Seth Thomas No. 720 remains a popular collector’s item due to its unique design and historical significance.
