About the Seth Thomas “Ramsgate” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Ramsgate” clock, produced around 1929 by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company, is a striking example of banjo timepiece design. This model features an 8-day lever movement housed within a mahogany case that retains its original finish in very nice condition, despite two age cracks on the dial’s wood bezel and minor damage to the back edge of the head. The clock also boasts a clean silver dial, original hands, and an authentic eagle finial.

Another version of this model, also from 1929, showcases a 7-jewel lever movement and retains its original dry finish with nice glasses. Although not currently running, it remains in good condition overall, with the exception of a broken and reglued top capital where the eagle is mounted.

The Seth Thomas Ramsgate mini banjo clock, while not currently operational, features original glasses displaying a reverse silk-screened ship scene and a 7-jewel movement. Standing at 21 inches tall, this model showcases the craftsmanship and attention to detail that the Seth Thomas Clock Company was known for during its time. Each of these clocks offers a unique glimpse into the rich history of American clockmaking.
