About the Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 60” Clock
The “Regulator No. 60” wall clock, manufactured by Seth Thomas around 1890, is a noteworthy addition to any collector’s inventory. This clock, crafted in oak, boasts an impressive height of 58 inches and features an eight-day weight-driven mechanism, similar to those used in the No. 16 and No. 19 Sweep Seconds regulators produced by Seth Thomas around 1886.
The clock’s case has been professionally refinished, while the dial is an aged paper artists rendering, carefully pasted over the original dial pan, giving it an authentic antique appearance. The pendulum, hands, and case hardware are original, with the exception of the center seconds hand that has been replaced, and the original center hand is taped inside. The weight, distinguished by a heavy knurled top and bottom, is wound out of sight in the provided photographs.
This Regulator No. 60 clock exhibits outstanding original condition, making it an appealing choice for discerning Seth Thomas collectors. One unique feature of this model is its paper dial, a characteristic shared by only a few Seth Thomas clocks. The movements in this particular piece bear the serial number 585, differing slightly from the one depicted in Seth Thomas Clocks by Tran du Ly (1996), which carries the serial number 481. A photograph of the movement can be found on page 139 of Ly’s reference book. With its distinctive design and exceptional condition, this Regulator No. 60 clock is a valuable addition to any Seth Thomas collection.
