About the Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 70” Clock
The Seth Thomas “Regulator No.70,” manufactured around 1924, stands as a testament to the craftsmanship of the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company. This impressive timepiece, constructed from quartered oak, boasts an imposing height of 55 ½ inches and a width of 22 inches.
The clock’s movement, identified as No.68, features a graham escapement with jeweled pallets, polished cut steel pinions, and keystone-shaped plates, all mounted on a large cast iron bracket. The movement is signed with the Seth Thomas logo and bears the numbers “383” and “68.”
The clock’s original 13-inch white enameled dial remains untouched, while the outside case exhibits four small round holes on the left, at the bottom, hinting at potential adaptations for external use. However, there is no internal evidence to support this theory.
This Seth Thomas “Regulator No.70” is a remarkable piece, with its large cast iron bracket and high-quality movement, making it an attractive addition to any collector’s inventory. The clock’s condition varies slightly, with minor paint remnants from a house job on the bottom rear of the case and a dial that shows signs of flaking. Despite these minor imperfections, this clock remains a significant find for enthusiasts of Seth Thomas clocks.

Seth Thomas “Regulator No.70”, ca 1924.
Made of quartered oak it is 55 1/2 inches high, 22 inches wide. Near perfect inside, it has an 8 day, time only, one weight movement, No. 68 with a beat adjuster, 60 beats per minute. The movement has jeweled pallets, polished cut steel pinions, polished keystone shaped plates, and is mounted on a large cast iron bracket. The movement is signed with the Seth Thomas logo, and the numbers “383” and “68” are inscribed. Pendulum, weight, beat scale, all very good. There is an original 13 inch white enameled dial that has not been touched. The outside of the case has some indications that it could have been manufactured for use as some kind of time keeping clock although there is no evidence that ever came about. On the outside of the case there are 4 small round holes on the left, at the bottom. There is no indication inside the case that anything was ever there. In fact two of the holes don’t go thru the wood which would leave you to think it was made so that something could be attached on the outside. It is a super clock none the less and you have to stand on your head to even see the little holes. Based on recent sales this clock should fetch $3500 to $4000. Ly-Seth Thomas No.470.
