About the Seth Thomas “Richmond” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Richmond” clock, manufactured around 1880 and 1884 by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company, is a captivating addition to any collector’s inventory. The octagon top shelf model, crafted from mahogany in the earlier version, boasts an impressive height of 18.5 inches. This timepiece features both strike and alarm functions, making it a versatile choice for keeping track of the hours.

In the later variant from 1884, the “Richmond” mantle clock showcases a rosewood case adorned with vibrant veneer. Although this particular piece has undergone restoration, its original tablet and label remain intact, albeit with minor flaking along the dial edge that is not readily apparent when the door is closed. The movement of this model offers 30 hours of timekeeping and striking, though it could benefit from oiling to ensure optimal performance.

Both versions of the Seth Thomas “Richmond” clock are distinguished by their elegant design and robust mechanics, making them valuable additions for enthusiasts seeking to expand their collection with a touch of history and craftsmanship.
