there are some veneer chips along the base, and veneer repairs across the top molding; the case has been refinished, and dial repainted. Retains a good label. Note alarm mechanism is present; set disc is packed separate and not on for foto. Ht 15.5″

Seth Thomas Clock Co. one of the earliest City Series clocks, “St. Louis”, ca 1874.
I am sure most collectors could care less about the City Series clocks but to me they were some of the finest mantle clocks made in that era of clock making. This case is 15.5″ high and has 3 or 4 different veneers or shades of veneers on the case. None of the veneer was easy, for it has convex and concave rolls, and skewed and flat veneer. Other than hauling bumps and bruises the veneer is good. Old painted tablet has been rebacked, dial could be a replacement although showing some wear, excellent paper label, iron bell and coil gong. One day movement is running and strikes the iron bell, alarm rings on the coil gong. The alarm is in the case but needs to be screwed to the backboard. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 208.

Condition: Overall good+ condition with original finish over original veneer and No. 151;some chips along the base and top left edge of cornice molding. One door hinge is a little bent; looks OK. The original dial had some flaking around the center hole which have been in-painted. Tablet, hands and case hardware are original; decent label inside. Height 16 inches

Condition – Mahogany and ash veneered case is in good condition, but will need restoration. Most of the veneer on the base molding is missing and there are some small pieces missing on the flat areas of the top molding. Original dial now has a paper dial. Case originally had an alarm that is missing. Tablet is a replacement. Height 15.5 inches
