About the Seth Thomas “Tory” Clock
The Seth Thomas “Tory” clock, manufactured around 1909 by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company, presents an exquisite addition to any collector’s repertoire. This model is available in both shelf and mantel variations, each showcasing a mahogany case with intricate inlay, retaining its original finish that exhibits a charming patina.
The porcelain dials of these clocks are near perfect, with only minor imperfections such as a small chip on the slow/fast arbor or a single spot where veneer has chipped away on the mantel version. The original hands complement the dials perfectly, while the beveled bezel glass remains pristine.
The movements of both versions strike on either a round cathedral gong or a coiled flat wire cathedral gong, adding an audible charm to these timepieces. Notable features include pierced brass side frets on the mantel version and original brass ball feet on the mantel clock with brass bezel glass.
These clocks, hailing from Holyoke, Massachusetts, offer a wonderful opportunity for both seasoned collectors and those just beginning their journey in clock collecting. With their impeccable craftsmanship and original components, they are indeed fine examples of the Seth Thomas “Tory” model.
