About the Seth Thomas “Wardroom” Clock
Introducing the Seth Thomas “Wardroom” ship’s bell clock, a unique timepiece produced by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, Connecticut around 1904. This model is characterized by its distinctive design, featuring either mahogany or oak cases and a white porcelain dial.
The “Wardroom” clocks are available in two versions: one with a deeply turned wood case and another with a painted white case, both versions having a diameter of approximately 8.5 to 9 inches. Some examples retain their original finish, while others have been refinished. The dials may exhibit minor imperfections such as hairlines, chips, or repairs.
These clocks operate on a 30-hour spring drive and feature both time and strike functions. They are equipped with balance escapement movements that strike on an internal bell. The hands and door glass are often original components. Despite occasional wear and tear due to age, the “Wardroom” ship’s bell clock remains a sought-after model among collectors, making it worthy of restoration.
