About the Seth Thomas “Marble No. 0” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Marble No. 0” clock, crafted by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, Connecticut around 1913, presents a striking visual appeal with its marble dial gallery design. This time-only, 30-day movement clock features the innovative Graham dead-beat escapement and boasts an original condition marble dial adorned with applied bronze Arabic numerals and bronzed hands.

The thick marble dial exhibits a very nice state of preservation, with the signature remaining mostly intact, save for one missing bronze minute marker. The dial hole above the six, as depicted in the Ly illustration, is also present. While the darker gray graining in the marble may appear more prominent in photographs than in reality, it adds to the clock’s distinctive charm.

The wooden case has undergone a tasteful refinishing process, but a strip of curved molding from the bottom is missing. The clock continues to function as intended, with a discernible ticking sound when moving the pendulum leader side to side, indicating its mechanical integrity remains intact. This Seth Thomas “Marble No. 0” clock offers an excellent opportunity for collectors seeking a well-preserved example of this iconic design from the early 20th century.
