About the Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 10 Variant” Clock

The “Parlor Calendar No. 10 Variant” clock, crafted by Seth Thomas Clock Co. in Thomaston, Connecticut in May 1896, is a unique and intriguing piece from their extensive catalog. This particular model features an 8-day time and strike lyre movement, coupled with the R. T. Andrews patented perpetual calendar mechanism. The clock resides within a walnut case adorned with burl accents, showcasing subtle variations in its top rails and case front ornamentation compared to catalog images of the standard Parlor Calendar No. 10.

The clock’s scarcity is evident, as this variant model is rarely encountered among collectors. The case remains in excellent condition, retaining its original finish, while the original painted time dial exhibits minor loss and slight fading around XII. The original painted calendar dial is in pristine condition. Both the hands and the two cast iron weights are authentic to the clock’s original construction.

The movement bears the Seth Thomas signature, and the original calendar drum papers have aged gracefully over time. Both door glasses remain original, preserving the clock’s historical integrity. This “Parlor Calendar No. 10 Variant” clock offers a captivating glimpse into the rich history of American horology during the late 19th century.
