About the Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 2” Clock
The “Parlor Calendar No. 2” clock, crafted by Seth Thomas Clock Co. of Thomaston, Connecticut, showcases a unique blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. This double dial calendar shelf clock features an 8-day, weight-driven time and strike movement, complemented by a Mix Brothers perpetual calendar mechanism. The clock is housed in a rosewood veneered case that exhibits some veneer loss on the top and bottom, which has been filled and does not perfectly match the adjacent veneer. However, upon buffing out the heavy wax coat, the case reveals a soft lustre surface.
The original painted time dial has undergone repainting, while the calendar dial displays touch-ups with areas of yellowing. The original hands remain intact, as does the original painted calendar hand. The calendar roller labels are in good condition, and the internal label on the case back is in excellent condition, along with a card on the back side of the front door that contains setup directions for the clock. All three door glasses, including the center tablet, are original components of this intriguing timepiece.
