The Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 21,” a testament to American craftsmanship, is a timekeeping masterpiece that graced homes during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This clock model falls under the category of regulators, designed primarily for precision in timekeeping rather than ornamentation.

Typical case materials for the Regulator No. 21 are mahogany, walnut, or cherry wood, each adding a unique character to the piece. The design is characterized by its tall, slender form with a rectangular dial and a pendulum visible through an open front. The case’s simplicity is a deliberate choice, allowing the precision mechanics of the clock to take center stage.

Produced between 1879 and 1936, this clock model represents a significant era in American horology. The Regulator No. 21 was one of Seth Thomas’ most popular and enduring models, reflecting the company’s commitment to producing high-quality, reliable timepieces.

What makes the Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 21” collectible is its combination of historical significance, craftsmanship, and timeless design. As one of the longest-produced regulators by the Seth Thomas Company, it offers a broad range of variations that can cater to various collector preferences.

Notable features include the clock’s brass works, which are highly polished and meticulously finished. The pendulum bob is typically made of brass or lead, often adorned with an intricate filigree design. Additionally, the Regulator No. 21 features a minute-hand only, reflecting its focus on precision timekeeping rather than hour indicators.
