Jan 2021 – 186 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, ca. 1890. I believe the veneer on the 36-inch case is walnut, although it is dark. There are four buttons on the base; the dial has been repainted, the hands are correct. Both glasses are old. The #77B movement is signed and running, the weight and pendulum bob are correct. No label seems to be the only shortcoming. America’s favorite clock, as Carroll Horton would say.

Jan 2021 – 55 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2”, ca. 1890. A 36-inch case with veneered walnut in fine shape except on the bezel, which has been stripped of the veneer and stained to match. Both glasses are likely original, the dial very old paint, possibly original with original hands. The time-only movement is the early version used in the No. 2 regulator (see page 277 of Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1 ); it is signed and running, a bit on the fussy side; the pendulum bob shows very faint damascening and the weight is correct. There is a black label on the bottom of the case and a beat scale Looks perfect unless you inspect the bezel up close.

The walnut veneer on the 36-inch case is perfect, including on the bezel; both glasses are old and probably The signed metal dial is chipping badly and is ready for repainting. The signed, time-only movement is running without issue, the pendulum bob is plain brass, the weight is correct. The beat scale is mounted upside-down.

This is an earlier model based on the base design; it is veneered in walnut with a dark finish and plenty of age, in perfect condition. Both glasses are likely original, as is the dial, which has been touched up in places, but looks good. The hands are correct, the weight, and the pendulum and bob. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running with authority. A white label inside on the bottom. About as good as they get.
