  • Antique Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 20” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas 8 bell Sonora “Chime Clock No. 20″, ca 1909. This is the top of the line, and the largest at 18” high, of the “Real Bronze” cases. The base, under my lights, is a slightly different shade of bronze than the top. It was not a cleaning or polishing that changed the shading, it is just the way the bronze cases look. This clock came with the 500-clock Texas collection last year. It was one of the best clocks in the collection and is the last clock to be photographed. I tried to talk myself into keeping it, as I always wanted an eight bell in this exact case. It is clean as a pin inside, and like everything in this collection, it is operating perfectly. There are a few rubs and a couple of dings, but nothing worth singling out for you to worry about as they are insignificant. The Time movement is No. 89M, and the chime movement is No. 104A. The large back door still has the original cloth covering the open pierced section. Two levers on the side, one sets Westminster or Whittington chimes, the other sets the silent-chime. To acquaint you with the Sonora Chime clocks, read Tom Chapell’s article in Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 206-211. This clock is No. 703 in that book.
