    There is a factory date stamp on the back “1891”. ST made well over 100 different City Series models and I tried to get one of each. I gave up about 10 years ago and sold them all. This model is one I had trouble finding at that time. They arenÕt many out there. This is a walnut case, about 22″ high, never cleaned, and retains the original finish, glass, dial, label, and pendulum. The nickel bob matches the nickel leader, nickel bezel and dial ring. It is 8 day, strikes a coil gong, and is running up a storm. This is about as good as it gets for originality.

    we’ve not had one of these for about 15 years, and even then a couple of the metal leaves were missing. This clock has its original finish, and the varnish is fine, but has deteriorated and crazed on the leaves, some of it flaked off to reveal the silver nature of the leaves. Even the little “berries” are still present in the center of the base. The dial was professionally repainted some time ago, and looks fine. Tablet is original. The original label is inside the case bottom, dark and worn, but legible. Ly price guide for 2004 = $1000. Ht 22.5″

    This particular clock was made February 1889, according to the factory stamp. The walnut case make to look like it was constructed of logs, rough lumber, cactus, and leaves of brass. Many nails of brass, more for looks than holding anything together. The case is 22.5″ high, has been refinished, I can’t imagine that job. Excellent original glass, identical to the clock referenced below; full black label inside, old Seth Thomas pendulum. New paper dial on the old pan. 8 day strike and alarm. Strikes on the cathedral gong, alarms on a bell behind the gong stand. This has always been a tough one for the collectors to find. I may have had 5-6 over the years and no two were exactly alike.     The case is in good condition with a remnants of original finish left over from the start of a refinishing job. Sides of crest have been glued back together. Veneer is lifting from the top of the case. The paper dial is replaced. The veneered dial mask has a pressboard substrate. The Seth Thomas lyre movement is signed and is has had some of the stopworks removed. Glass is original. The gong is a replacement. The nickel pendulum bob is nicely damascened. Decent black paper label inside the case. We sold this same model in our April 2018 sale for $1400.

    13″ mahogany finished case is in near perfect condition, all original, glasses , dial, pendulum bob. 8 day movement strikes the hours and half hours on a cathedral gong.     very good condition, with original dog tablet. The case was refinished with rubbed shellac maybe 50 years ago and has a great look; dial repainted at the same time. Interestingly the front veneer is rosewood, and the sides are beech, and would have been grained originally (looks fine as is) The 30 hour movement is an early round job, signed Seth Thomas, Plymouth. Dog lovers are sure to like this one. Height 16 inches

    8 day, gong strike, alarms on a brass bell. Full label, repainted zinc dial, great tablet (although broken) showing cats trying to catch a mouse. 17 inch walnut or mahogany veneer. One problem, if you want it to be, the dial is an old zinc repaint, but does not have the cutout for an alarm. There is an alarm in the base of this case. Not a collector clock, but sure is nice otherwise. Ly-Seth Thomas No.976.

If you want originality, it is great as is, if you want looks, spend $25 and get the dial repainted. 30 hour, strikes a gong on the hours. Runs, but needs adjusting. 17 inch walnut case has never been cleaned. Good veneer generally, may be a sliver off somewhere. Part of the glass rebacked, middle section should be.     Sometimes called a miniature OG. 30 hour, strikes a coil gong, runs very well. Excellent full backboard label, repainted dial with logo, original glasses. To retain the paint on the lower tablet it should be rebacked. 17 inch mahogany veneer case has never been cleaned and retains the original finish. Good veneer, just some scuffed places.     The refinished rosewood veneered case is in excellent condition with just a small veneer chip on the back edge, bottom. The original dial has been repainted. The gong for the strike is missing, but the brass grommet that holds in place is still there, which would make it an easy repair. The bell for the alarm is still there (they actually have bent the hammer so it strikes and alarms on the same bell). The label is very clean. The original tablet of a dog is in outstanding condition. Height 17 inches

    the case is in very good condition with a glossy finish, and most of the reverse paint dog remains on the lower tablet. Behind the S/T hands is the original metal dial about 15% flaked. The flat xinc dial has original painat and is marked ‘Seth Thomas” in the center; the numerals are a bit worn. The lower table with 3 pheasants is original and very nice.     Weight clock, similar in a lot of ways with the mainstay mantle clock, the OG clock. This clock is very similar to No. 496 as it is also made of rosewood veneer, shell columns, gold capitals and bases. I can almost call the clock perfect. The gold is about 100 percent. There are a couple of tiny veneer chips that you have to look hard to find. And I am in doubt about the lower glass, so I will call it a replacement. Signed brass movement strikes a coil gong, runs good. The old zinc dial has held the paint much better than we normally see on aSeth Thomas dial this old, and someone has touched up a half dozen chipped places. The old clock actually looks very good. Fantastic full label, a pair of period weights, brass pendulum and key. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 989.

    The rosewood veneered case with a nice old finish is in exceptionally nice condition with a couple of minor veneer chips on the base and just below the right column. The original painted dial, that is very nice for a Seth Thomas, has some flaking along the bottom and around the winding holes. The tablet, which is unusual, appears to be original; no evidence of replacement. The movement is marked “Plymouth Hollow” which would make this a crossover clock, assembled just after the Civil War. It looks as good in person as it does in the foto. Height 25 inches

    Condition: Mahogany veneered case in nice condition with a small veneer piece missing the corner of the bottom and a small piece on the left side of the column cap just below the cornice. Some finish has bubbled due to heat, but should rub out ok. Both tablets are original and excellent. Original painted dial is very nice for its age with just some minor paint loss at the mounting pins. Movement, weights and pendulum are original; movement signed. Outstanding label. Height 32.5 inches
