Both glasses are old, as is the painted dial and dial board. The Seth Thomas time-and-strike movement is dirty but runs without problem, 8 days, striking on a wire gong. A dark label inside on the bottom. This model came as time-only, time-and-strike, and with a calendar. ST advertised that the top could be removed if you wanted a plainer case. Seems pretty plain already to me

    The only thing that keeps this from being excellent is the fact that someone lightly varnished over the entire case giving it a syruppy look (original finish in intact beneath, and some 4 ought steel wool would take this off with some patient rubbing). As the catalog states, the top may be removed if a “Plain Case is Preferred”. This clock sold for 8 dollars in 1910. Retains original, dial, hands, movement, finish and metal index inside bottom of case. Also with original label inside, that has been varnished over like the rest of the case. Actually looks quite decent as is. Height 36 inches

    The original red mahogany finish on the 36 inch high, old case, has never been cleaned or refinished, still has the crazing on the wood. Everything looks tobe original, except maybe the glasses, canÕt tell for sure. The old dial wasrepainted and looks identical to an original looks like in the books. Very nice nickel pendulum ball with the Seth Thomas swirls, beat scale, and an old label inside the case. The movement is 8 day, time only, spring driven, running well. Ly-Seth Thomas, No. 473.

    No doubt made by ST to compete with the poplar store regulators and shop clocks made by the other clock makers.They said in their ad, “Top can be taken off if a plainer case is preferred”.The Office No. 6 with the etched top and base was a little fancier than theIngraham or Sessions comparable cases. ST priced their No. 6 to be competitivewith the other companyÕs store regulators. Today the ST No. 6 will sell fortwice as much as the competitions comparable clocks. They also made the sameclock with a simple calendar. This old oak case has the original crusty finish, case is 36″ high. Movement is 8 day time only; 12″ dial has a little flaking.Runs very strong, has a good label inside, original pendulum. Lacking onlythe brass dial ring to complete the clock.     Their entry in the store regulator race. Other companies made zillions of “shop regulators”, “store regulators”, around the turn of the century, and made them plain and simple. Seth made theirs to be a little nicer and not as large. After 100 years the ST will sell for twice as much as the Ingrahams, Gilbert, etc. This original case has a crusty finish, is 36 inches high. Sporting an 8 day movement, time only, running very strong. 12 inch dial with a little flaking, no dial ring, good label inside, and original pendulum. Ly-Seth Thomas #473. Because of the dial ring our estimate is lowered considerable below current prices. $350- $450.

Cleaned to a good looking light to medium oak, completely original including the very nice painted dial, old brass bob and wood stick, label inside. 8 day spring, time only, running. Case is 32.5 inches high, dial is 12 inch. Ly-Seth Thomas #473. I think you will find the new Ly-Seth Thomas coming out later this year will show the value of this clock around 850 dollars.     Another version, hailing from around 1900, boasts a nicely refinished oak case and a dial in very good condition, with minor wear on the signature and some numerals. This clock comes complete with original hands, pendulum, and case hardware.

    Later models, produced around 1910, showcase an excellent original condition with a clean oak case adorned with Eastlake incised trim. The dial and hands are original as well, featuring straight minute and bulbous spade hour hands, which were unique to this particular model among Seth Thomas’s offerings.

    It is worth mentioning that some versions of the Office No. 5 may feature a mahogany case under a darkened reddish finish, with minor imperfections such as shrinkage cracks and damage to corners. The dial on these clocks might display hairline cracks, stains, or small losses.

    The oak case is very clean with original Eastlake incised trim. Nice original dial, hands and old oak finish (the only way it came). This is one of the few clocks that Seth Thomas produced with standard English style hands (straight minute and bulbous spade hour). A great clock that a beginner can be proud of; as good as it gets.     Apparently a mahogany case, but under a darkened reddish original finish. There are a couple shrinkage cracks in the door, a little damage at the top left corner and a separation at the upper right corner molding. Original painted dial has aged with fine hairline cracks, stains and small loss at the time side winding arbor. Original hands.

    Condition: the case has been refinished and the top corners rounded a bit, and bubbles in the veneer on the dial surround. There is an old paper dial pasted over the zinc pan, which looks OK, but is coming loose from the pan. The movement is properly marked with Seth Thomas logo; pendulum is original. Height 23.2 inches

    The stripped oak case is in fair condition with some damage to the upper left and lower right edges of moldings and some lifting of the veneer that surrounds the dial opening that is in need of attention. The original painted dial is fair as Seth Thomas dials go with some paint flaking in the center area of the dial and along the outer edges, however we note that more of the paint is loose and some professional attention is called for here.     Mahogany veneer case is 21.5″ high and probably never been refinished or even cleaned as it retains about 95% of the original gilt trim around the edges. All of the brass medallions are securely in place and they have never been cleaned or polished. There is a small wood chip on the lower right corner. The lower round tablet is original and has been backed with a heavy paper to help hold the paint. Both brass bezels look like they were never polished, the top glass looks to be original as none of the solder holding the tabs has been broken loose. The metal dial is just too nice not to be a repaint, and was well done. Good label inside the case, factory stamp on the back, “9881A”, meaning the clock was made Jan. 1889. Now, why is this clock rare? It has an ALARM. None of the catalogs show a wall clock of this type or style with an alarm. Movement is 8 day and it strikes a coil gong.

    Of the many wall clocks produced by the SETH THOMAS CLOCK COMPANY in Thomaston, Connecticut, several featured brass ornamentation on the case. This beauty which they named the OFFICE No. 2, has round, brass “buttons” which have been cleaned and polished to enhance the carefully refinished case and professionally-cleaned and serviced brass eight day movement. On the lower door glass is a charming painting of a song bird perched on colorful Springtime tree limbs (see photograph). Behind the bird the brass pendulum ‘bob’ can be viewed as it swings back and forth, keeping very good time. The hours are struck on a coil gong throughout the eight-day cycle by this excellent clock from the 1800’s.     Seth used an old case style and gussied it up with some brass buttons. This oak case is polished veneer and shines like a new silver dollar. All the brass buttons, pendulum bob, and both bezels are polished and shining. If they had stopped right there all would have been well. Instead of painting the old pan someone installed a new painted metal dial on the old pan. It is fine and you can hardly tell it, but nonetheless its there. There are some extra holes around the old pan, so even it may not be original. Nice large time only movement, signed, and runs a week, although we didn’t oil it. It is a great looking clock; just don’t think about the two dials. Ly-Seth Thomas #513.

    The refinished “Old Oak” case is in very clean condition. There is a little piece of veneer missing along the back edge of the case (not very noticeable). The original painted dial has small paint flakes in various places on the dial and a scratch inside the seconds dial, but is still very good (for a Seth Thomas). The hands are original. The case houses a large double spring movement which is clean and running. A good looking clock that is ready to enjoy. Height 18 inches

On each end there are small pieces of veneer missing, could be easily repaired or donÕt worry about it as you wonÕt see the missing pieces anyway. The case has not been cleaned or polished and could use some Nu-Life or similar polish. This case style is very poplar as it is a cross between the tambour and round top styles.
