C.1875, Seth Thomas, “CINCINNATI”, 8-day time and strike shelf clock, restored.
Like the above clock this was purchased at a retail shop in Connecticut. The price was $985 in 1994. The shop had refinished the case and inserted a tablet from a small Waltham banjo (does look good!!). Although the dial surface is original, with touch up, the numerals and chapter have been re-blacked. The label on this clock is exceptional; has original movement and hands and is in running order. Note this is the first version with straight turned side columns (later were tapered and the clock was an inch taller). Height 16 inches

This was one of the city series offered by Seth Thomas. The only veneer damage is on the base where some small pieces are missing. The ebonized areas of the case will need some touchup to hide scraps and dings. The original painted dial is very nice with some minor loss around the mounting screws and one small chip on the side. The tablet and hands are original. Both finials have lost their tips and been filed smooth. The label inside is very clean. Height 14 inches

Seth Thomas “Cincinnati” City Series Shelf Clock
With an 8 day spring strike movement and a painted tin dial. The lower door is painted with a boy, men and a dog in period clothing. There is an interior label. The pendulum is with the clock. The clock runs and gongs. (The suspension needs to be fixed – even though the clock runs without it. The lower door is peeling. There are some small scrapes on the case.) 16 3/4″ Tall

Condition – Refinished walnut and walnut veneered case is in generally good condition, with restoration, some open grain showing on the door. Columns and finials now gold painted. Tablet is a replacement. Original painted dial has been in-painted in the flaked areas and attempted repairs to some of the numbers and minute ring. Strike bell is a replacement. Height 16 inches

Condition: Walnut veneered case is in good condition refinished long ago, and with minor veneer loss on the right side of the base and some minor loss to the ebonized areas. Original gold leaf columns are now overpainted with gold. Finials have been replaced (and not proper profile). Original dial has been inpainted in the flaked areas and needs professional help. Original tablet is flaking a little. See also lot 554. A little additional effort will improve this clock. Height 16 inches

Condition: Walnut veneered case is in very nice condition with an original finish. Minor veneer loss on the base and the two gilt finials are now broken off at tip. Original gilt turned columns are worn in places, but exceptional for their age.. Original dial has a little loss at the mounting screws and the winding holes. Nice tablet and hands are original, also a great label and original winding stops on the movement. Height 16 inches
