About the Seth Thomas “Empire No. 10” Clock
Introducing the Seth Thomas “Empire No. 10” clock, a mantel clock manufactured by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, Connecticut around 1904. This Crystal Regulator clock features an 8-day gong strike mechanism and boasts a polished metal case that is both gilded and lacquered.
The clock stands at approximately 15.2 inches tall and is characterized by its beveled glass sides, all of which show no signs of chips or damage. The dial, signed by the manufacturer, remains in pristine condition with original hands. The movement, having undergone cleaning, runs smoothly.
In some instances, the cast top and bottom may exhibit minor oxidation due to age, but overall, the clock is reported to be in very good restored condition. For further reference, one can consult Tran Ly’s 3rd edition Seth Thomas book on page 240, figure 730, where the Empire No. 10 is detailed. While price guides may vary, it is noted that the value of this clock remains significant within the collectors’ market.
