About the Seth Thomas “Empire No. 16” Clock

The “Empire No. 16” clock, manufactured by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company around 1909, is a striking example of their craftsmanship during this era. This timepiece functions as both a timekeeper and a strike mechanism, operating on an 8-day crystal regulator.

The clock’s case, although heavily tarnished, remains in good condition with original ornaments that still show remnants of their gold finish. The porcelain dial features a hairline crack at the 3 o’clock position, and one dial grommet is missing. Despite these minor imperfections, the hands remain original and the beveled glass is in good condition.

The movement, signed with the distinctive Seth Thomas logo, is complete and functioning but requires cleaning due to accumulated dirt. The clock stands at a height of 16 inches, making it an imposing addition to any collection or home decor. This “Empire No. 16” clock offers a glimpse into the rich history of Seth Thomas Clock Company’s production during the early 20th century.
