About the Seth Thomas “Florence” Clock
Introducing the Seth Thomas “Florence” clock, a mantel piece dating back to circa 1909. This model showcases an intricately inlaid mahogany case with brass accents, giving it a distinctive charm. The clock has undergone restoration, including refinishing and polishing of the brass work, as well as cleaning of the movement (No. 48R). The porcelain dial, while displaying a minor chip on the outer edge at the 7 o’clock position, remains in good condition. The original hands adorn the dial, ready for you to enjoy. Standing at 12 inches tall, this restored Seth Thomas “Florence” clock is an excellent addition to any collection.
Another variant of the “Florence” model, also from circa 1909, features an English cabinet case with marqueterie and brass feet, standing at a height of 12.25 inches. Despite spending over a decade in storage among other items, the mahogany wood and marqueterie inlay remain impressive. However, the 4-inch white convex porcelain dial has suffered damage, with a visible impact on the winding arbor and an unsuccessful repair attempt. The strike side of the 8-day movement is missing wheels, and it currently functions only as a timepiece. The cathedral bell is also absent from this particular model. This “Florence” clock bears the Ly-Seth Thomas number #1046. With a little tender love and care, this piece could be restored to its former glory.

Seth Thomas mantle clock, “Florence”, C. 1909.
English cabinet case is 12.25″ high with marqueterie and brass feet. The mahogany wood and marqueterie inlay are really great for a clock put in the shed with other junk for over 10 years. Maybe it is the dial and movement that caused it to be put aside. The 4″ white convex porcelain dial looks like it has been hit with a hammer right on the winding arbor, then an attempted repair was made and failed. The wheels are missing from the strike side of the 8 day movement, and it is dirty, but will function as a timepiece only. The cathedral bell is also gone. Ly-Seth Thomas #1046.
