About the Seth Thomas “La Fleur” Clock

The Seth Thomas “La Fleur” clock, produced around 1909, showcases a unique blend of modernistic and Art Nouveau design elements. Standing at an impressive height of 14 inches, this mantle clock is distinguished by its original Syrian Bronze finish that has largely been preserved over time.

The one-piece porcelain dial features a decorative garland of flowers, encased within beveled glass. The clock’s movement operates on an 8-day mechanism, striking the half hours on a cathedral gong. The Ly-Seth Thomas No.860 model number is clearly visible.

The “La Fleur” also boasts a poplar metal case with a rich gold finish that remains largely intact and bright, suggesting it has not been cleaned extensively. The case includes an original back door and American sash with beveled glass. While the hinge is currently held in place with a finishing nail, this minor detail does not affect the clock’s functionality and goes unnoticed upon casual observation.

The dial features bold Arabic numerals and minute markings on an outer ring. The 8-day movement is powered by a round plate No. 3 15/16 mechanism, signed by Seth Thomas, and strikes a standing gong with a correct pendulum. This version of the “La Fleur” is identified as the 1996 Edition, further adding to its historical significance.
