About the Seth Thomas “Naples” Clock

Introducing the Seth Thomas “Naples” clock, a captivating timepiece from circa 1902 that showcases intricate carvings and fine detailing. This particular piece has been preserved in excellent condition for the past 25 years within a single Massachusetts collection. The oak case, having undergone professional refinishing, boasts a soft sheen and maintains overall excellence despite minor imperfections on the base.

The clock’s movement, an 8-day round French style with an outside count wheel, has been meticulously cleaned and runs and strikes accurately. The clock’s striking mechanism produces a Cathedral Bell chime on the half hours. The clock stands at 12 inches tall and features a one-piece porcelain dial signed by Seth Thomas.

Though it is part of Seth Thomas’ City Series, this “Naples” model is a unique find, as the collector who previously owned it had never encountered one before during their years of collecting City Series clocks. The clock bears the number 3 15/16 on its movement and features a French Sash with beveled glass. Notably, the grommet on the right side is missing, resulting in minor chipping around the winding arbor on the porcelain dial. This exceptional Seth Thomas “Naples” clock is identified as No. 205 in the Seth Thomas catalog.

in excellent condition. This clock has been in one small Massachusetts collection for the last 25 years. The oak case was professionally refinished and has a nice soft sheen. The movement has been cleaned and is running and striking fine. The catalog drawing of this clock does not do it justice, as the detail in the carving is fine. There are ever so minor imperfections on the base, but the clock is still overall excellent. Height 12″

Seth Thomas "Naples", ca 1902.

Seth Thomas “Naples”, ca 1902.

Another of the City Series made by Seth, this is one I had never seen before. I collected City Series for several years but never found one. This is quite a clock. Intricate carvings top and bottom. The 8 day movement is the round French style with outside count wheel, signed by ST, and numbered 3 15/16. Strikes a Cathedral Bell on the half hours. Nice beveled glass, French Sash. 12 inch hand carved case is made of dark mahogany. One piece porcelain dial is signed by Seth Thomas. The grommet on the right side is missing, therefore the porcelain paid the price as it is chipped around the winding arbor, otherwise very good.Ly-Seth Thomas No. 205.
