About the Seth Thomas “Nashville” Clock
Introducing the Seth Thomas “Nashville” clock, a notable piece from the esteemed City Series, manufactured around 1879 by the Seth Thomas Clock Company. This early iteration of the popular series showcases a one-day bell strike movement that operates smoothly. The clock features an unusual nickel pendulum with a matching rod and bell, and a black label within its near-perfect walnut case.
The dial is painted zinc, displaying signs of wear but retaining its originality, including the 1878 patent date. The hands and pendulum are also original components of this 100% authentic clock, ready to grace any mantle. The Seth Thomas “Nashville” stands at approximately 16 inches in height.
Another variant of this model boasts a refinished walnut case in clean condition, with an original dial displaying wear but still preserving the 1878 patent date. This version features an 8-day movement that strikes a nickel bell and sports a nickel plated pendulum with an embossed ST logo. The label is worn from the base, and the clock stands at 16 inches in height.
Both versions of the Seth Thomas “Nashville” are original, never cleaned or refinished, and showcase unique features such as a third hole drilled in the dial board for pendulum visibility and a star pendulum with a Fleur de Le design, which was exclusive to the Nashville, New Orleans, and Fashion No. 3 models.

The simple style case was poplar at that time. It was made of dark walnut with great graining. This case is all original, not cleaned or refinished, and has nickel accessories. Black label inside, nickel bell, dial rings, and pendulum. We “experts” say that the only Seth Thomas clocks with a star pendulum were the Nashville, New Orleans, and Fashion No. 3. We say that because those three were the only ones pictured in the trade catalogs with a star pendulum. This clock has the A movement, number “4 7/8”, 8 day, striking the bell on each hour.
