About the Seth Thomas “Office No. 16” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Office No. 16” clock, produced around 1924, is a striking example of American craftsmanship. This hanging clock stands tall at 31 inches, housed in a mahogany case that has been refinished in a lighter stain for an updated appearance. The clock’s dial, measuring 12 inches, features original hands and a seconds bit, signed by Seth Thomas.

The clock’s movement, designated as No. 86 double spring time only, incorporates the renowned Graham dead beat escapement. The dial shows minor paint loss at the winding holes, and while the upper door glass appears to be original, the lower door glass may be a later replacement. Despite being part of a collection for an extended period, the clock remains in good running condition, though it could benefit from servicing.

The Seth Thomas Clock Co., based in Thomaston, Connecticut, also produced this model with an oak case stained a reddish color and featuring an 86W 30-day spring-driven brass movement. This office clock is a testament to the enduring quality of Seth Thomas timepieces.
