About the Seth Thomas “Office No. 2” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Office No. 2” Regulator Clock is a noteworthy timepiece, produced by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston, Connecticut. This model is available in two variations: as a floor standing regulator clock and a wall clock.

The floor standing version, featuring a TO movement, boasts a signed paper dial with a seconds bit and a pendulum. The clock stands at 36 inches tall and resides in a new case meticulously crafted by Dick Broline. Although untested, the clock’s case is adorned with intricate brass details.

The wall clock version, from 1909, showcases an eight-day movement, Seth Thomas paper dial, and polished mahogany veneer. The lower door features a unique decal of a Mexican at siesta time. However, the dial may have been replaced, and the case veneer exhibits some damage at the bottom and edges.

Other versions of this clock include an 8-day strike wall regulator with brass ornamentation on the case, featuring round brass “buttons” and a charming painting of a song bird on the lower door glass. The hours are struck on a coil gong throughout the eight-day cycle.

Overall, the Seth Thomas “Office No. 2” clock is an attractive addition to any collection, showcasing the company’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship in their timepieces.

Seth Thomas hanging clock, "Office No. 2", C. 1909.

Seth Thomas hanging clock, “Office No. 2”, C. 1909.

Seth used an old case style and gussied it up with some brass buttons. This oak case is polished veneer and shines like a new silver dollar. All the brass buttons, pendulum bob, and both bezels are polished and shining. If they had stopped right there all would have been well. Instead of painting the old pan someone installed a new painted metal dial on the old pan. It is fine and you can hardly tell it, but nonetheless its there. There are some extra holes around the old pan, so even it may not be original. Nice large time only movement, signed, and runs a week, although we didn’t oil it. It is a great looking clock; just don’t think about the two dials. Ly-Seth Thomas #513.
