About the Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 6” Clock

Introducing the Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 6,” a noteworthy timepiece produced by the renowned Seth Thomas Clock Company around 1886. This clock boasts an oak case that has been refinished, showcasing remnants of its original red finish in the corners and crevices. The clock stands at a height of 27 inches.

The clock’s unique features include brass bezels, circles etched around, and original wooden ones, as well as an 8-day movement with Geneva stops removed and a striking mechanism that rings on a brass bell. The dial, although repainted, retains its original zinc material.

One notable aspect of this clock is the top urn, which may be a well-crafted reproduction due to slight variations in design from year to year. The lower dial, despite minor flakes, remains in exceptional condition for Seth Thomas clocks. The calendar rollers have aged, but remain legible.

Additional details include factory stamps indicating the clock was made in May 1885, and a label from the original retailer, Camerer, Kuss and Co., London. The clock has also undergone restoration, with the walnut case refinished and the upper dial repainted. However, it’s worth noting that the hour hand has been improperly changed, but replacements are available from various suppliers.
