Jan 2021 – 149 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Tudor No. 1”, ca. 1879. A classic Seth Thomas shelf clock, 15 inches tall with a perfect rosewood veneer. The glass is original, the dial pan new galvanized steel, the hands Seth Thomas issue. The 8-day time-and-strike Seth Thomas lyre movement is running and striking on a wire gong. Good label inside, the key operates the door latch.

The only thing that keeps this from being excellent are a couple of very minor veneer chips along the inner edge of the top bezel. Original “ST’ hands intact. Most anyone would be happy with this clock. Height 16′

It looks like someone has shellacked the mahogany veneered case in the distant past and it needs to be rubbed down. There is a little roughness on the base and a little chip along the back edge. The original dial has a little paint loss around the mounting screws. The door glass is original. The hands are improper (replacements are available from Timesavers). The large 8-day movement with Geneva stops is properly signed. Retains a very good label. A pleasant model that is hard to find in good condition: this has potential. Height 15.25Ó $175-$275

Condition: Walnut veneered case in clean condition with some scratches and an old and possibly original finish. Wood bezel on the door is unusual for this model with indication that it was originally gilded. Dial pan was flaked and has been papered over, and also turned upside down and now with extra holes. The hands appear to be replacements. Original movement is signed. Height 15 inches [38.1 cm]

Condition: Rosewood veneered case in fair to good condition, with veneer loss all around the top radius of the door, stained in. Original painted dial has flaking areas. Hands are original. Gong hammer and gong have been replace (base is original). Inside label is a little faded, but still fully legible. Height 15.25 inches [38.73 cm]

refinished rosewood veneered case in clean condition. Small thin worn area to the veneer just above 12 o’clock. Original dial has been repainted. “ST” hands are original. Clean label inside case. This model is hard to find in good condition, and this is a nice example. Ht 16″

original finish has been rubbed down, the case is in poor condition with several areas of veneer loss outside the bezel and a section of veneer and base wood missing along the rear edge, the dial is darkened, the label is in good condition with no losses and legible, no pendulum. Ht 15 1/2″

15″ rosewood veneer case, veneer very good on the base which is unusual, and only a couple of small chips off the door on top. The bare spots have been stained to match the veneer, so it is hard to see that any is missing. Full label, original repainted dial, key lock door. 8 day, strike and alarm movement, strikes on a coil gong, alarms on an iron bell, running good. Ly-Seth Thomas No.951.

Condition – Refinished rosewood case is in good condition with veneer loss near the top hinge, on the sides of the base and damage (missing wood) on the back edges of the top. Dial bezel is now gold painted (originally leaf over gesso). Original dial base now has a new paper dial, lifting and with bubbles. Minute hand is old, but a tad too short for the chapter ring. Movement is properly signed with Seth Thomas logo. Height 15.25 inches
