About the Seth Thomas “Wales” Clock
The Seth Thomas “Wales” clock, produced around 1905, is a noteworthy addition to any collector’s inventory. This timepiece showcases a mahogany case with an original finish that remains unblemished, save for one small nick on one corner. The dial is porcelain and retains its original hands, while the bezel is heavy cast brass and features a convex beveled glass.
The clock stands at 10 inches tall and operates on an 8-day movement, striking the hours and half hours on a resonant cathedral gong. Although it requires cleaning of the works before it will run smoothly, its overall condition is very fine. The Seth Thomas “Wales” clock also features a signed dial with minimal imperfections, such as small hairlines around one winding arbor.
Another variant, the Seth Thomas “English Cabinet” cased clock, “Wales,” was produced around 1909. This version boasts a mahogany cabinet case with ripple molding and brass feet, standing at approximately 10.75 inches high. It features a 4-inch convex porcelain dial under a cast sash and beveled glass, with both the wood and brass being in pristine condition. The clock operates on an 8-day round movement, striking the hours and half hours on a Cathedral Bell. A factory date is present on the base, although it may require deciphering. As with the earlier model, this “Wales” clock has been in storage for several years and will likely need service to ensure proper functioning.

Seth Thomas “Wales” clock.
A very nice little clock with a solid Oak case in a good original finish. There is one small nick on one corner and the rest is perfect. It has a signed porcelain dial which has no chips or hairlines, just a bit of roughness around one winding arbor. The bezel is heavy cast brass and there is a convex beveled glass. It has the original hands, key and pendulum. This is an 8 day clock with hour and half hour strike on a resonant cathedral gong. The works will need cleaning before it will run. 10″ tall.

Seth Thomas, “English Cabinet” cased clock, “Wales”, ca 1909.
10.75 inches high mahogany cabinet case with ripple molding around the top, brass feet. 4 inch convex porcelain dial under a cast sash and a beveled glass. Neither the wood nor brass has ever been cleaned that we can tell. A really nice clean case. Little hairlines around one wind arbor, nothing serious. 8 day round movement, hour and half hour rack strike on a Cathedral Bell. Factory date on the base but I can’t decipher exactly. Been in storage several years, will no doubt need service, even though it is trying to run. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 283.
