  • Antique Seth Thomas “Regulator No. 2” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2″, C. 1913-1922. Some latitude there because ST didn’t make 36.5″ cases until 1913, prior they were 34″, and the dials had Roman numerals until 1921, and this base style was only used until 1922. As stated this nice polished old oak case is 36.5” high, has a very good old zinc painted dial, weight, pendulum, beat scale, and label in the base is about 90% there. Movement is 8 day, powered by 1 large shining brass weight. Heavy brass plates secured to an iron bracket, Graham dead beat escapement, wood rod, brass pendulum ball, has maintaining power. Attractive dark oak case retains the original finish with crazing. It has led a sheltered life. Ly-Seth Thomas #362.

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas, “Regulator No. 2″, C. 1913-1921. This is an unusual quartered oak veneer case. Some of the wood grain designs they disclosed by sawing the wood different ways, is astonishing. The case height of 36.5″ helped me determine the age of this clock. Probably America’s most poplar wall weight clock, the majority were made of oak and oak veneer. What has made it such a good seller other than the name Seth Thomas is the simple case style, good case work, the heavy brass accessories, and it is an excellent timekeeper. 8 day time, weight clock, has a movement with strong, well finished plates, held to the case by an iron bracket, with Graham dead beat escapement, wood rod, brass covered zinc ball, and has maintaining power. The new 12” dial pan is a repaint, and there is a good old label in the case. The case and brass have not been cleaned or refinished. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 110-111.

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas hanging clock, “Regulator No. 2″, C. 1913. Cherry case 36.5″ high. According to available records ST did not made cherry cases after 1913, and the cases were 36.5″ after 1913, 34” before 1913. Some may call it refinished, I call it cleaned. It was a clock my wife used in the kitchen for a long time, until we played musical clocks recently. I kept it adjusted to within a minute a month. The 8 day movement is clean, running, signed. I can’t see any tracks of a recent dial painter, but the dial is too nice not to have been repainted. It hasn’t been off the case many times because the original tiny screws are still in the same tiny holes, very unusual. All the brass is original, weight, bob, beat scale, and hardware. After all the glowing remarks I must say the back of the case looks like it was drug down the street behind a tow truck. I guess that doesn’t hurt it but thankfully we don’t have to look at the back. It has strong, well finished plates that are secured to an iron back plate. Dial has been nicely repainted. The brass accessories appear to be original to this clock. Ly-Seth Thomas, page 110-111.
