  • Antique Seth Thomas “Marcy” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: C.1886, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Marcy, 8-day time/strike with striking on quarter hours on two cup bells and the hour on a gong rod. This oak case model is complete and in generally good condition, exceptions noted. There is a little minor lifting of the veneer in a couple of places on the lower door, and a couple of chips at the top. There is a burn mark on molding just below the door that was probably caused by an oil lamp or candle; original shipping holes in the case back beside the pendulum have been filled. The dial pan is new, with another old metal dial fastened to the pan. The dial mask, is made from an old piece of oak dresser side and looks OK. The hands and movement are original. The pendulum is a proper replacement. Despite these problems, this is not a common clock. With a little effort a proper type dial can be located and adapted to the case, and the minor trim problems can be handled by a good cabinet maker. In original condition, we have sold these for $4500+. Height 46″ $2,500-$3,500

  • Antique Seth Thomas “Marcy” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: C.1886, Seth Thomas “MARCY”wall clock in generally good original condition with some veneer repairs to the front door. The door suffered some veneer loss at the bottom that has been replaced and not stained the same medium gold color; other minor chips in door veneer. In addition, at some point someone tried washing off the exterior with some solvent that left some dark streaks in the original varnish. The interior of the case is quite clean and untouched, and retains original hardware throughout. This movement is illustrated in Ly’s 1996 Seth Thomas book, page 140, and is a large, 3-train, 8-day unit that strikes the quarters on 2 cupped bells, and the hours on a cathedral gong. The dial has been professionally restored over the original paint, with some touch up as well. The case has been waxed to a high sheen, and the movement is clean and running. Still looks good despite the shortcomings. Height 46”

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: C.1882, Seth Thomas Sons and Co., (Thomaston), “Marble No. 99”, 8-day time/strike mantel clock, black marble. Condition: Imported marble and onyx case has minor chips on some of the sharp edges of the case and a chip on the back edge of the side molding. Porcelain dial has a little repair around the right winding hole, but still looks good. Round plate movement is signed as in the headline. This was near the end of Seth Thomas’ effort to compete head on with the French onslaught of clocks that were pouring into New York and Boston harbors; dial on this is signed simply Seth Thomas, as they were using up the “Sons” movements that were left over after they were absorbed into the Seth Thomas Clock Co. in 1879. Nice beginner level clock. Height 10.75 inches

  • Antique Seth Thomas “Marble No. 144” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas “Marble No. 144” ca 1886. This is a rarity, imported marble case with open escapement on the dial. Isn’t this about the only clock Seth Thomas sold that had open escapement? Since the cases were imported isn’t it possible the round movement with outside count wheel, and open escapement, were put in the case in France? If Seth had made them in Thomaston as they supposedly did their round movements for the Seth Thomas and Sons clocks, they would have put the open escape movement in their SethThomas and Sons clocks. The movement is 8 day, half hour strike on cathedralbell, running. Two piece porcelain dial has some faint hairlines in the outerdial ring. Marble case is etched with gold filling, three nice pieces ofmarble inlay on the front. Really a super nice clock. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 144.

  • Antique Seth Thomas “Madonna and Child” Model Clock

    Antique Seth Thomas

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas and Sons, “Madonna and Child”, ca 1876. These early Seth Thomas and Sons clocks used French type movements. This one is typical French, 8 day, round, bell strike, outside count wheel. It is signed by Seth Thomas. When making this series of clocks they certainly put their money in the movement, dial, bezel, and beveled glass, which I supposeis more important than the cast metal case. This case is 16 inches high and18 inches wide. Most all the cases were white metal, very few werebronzes. The finish they used on all the models was not good, as most allhave to be repainted, or have expensive bronze or gold gilt put on. Thereis a lot of detail to this clock, it is original, complete, and had a newfinish put on several years ago. For the price this is certainly a lot ofclock. Ly-American, Volume 2, No. 851.
