The signed silvered dial shows modest wear, sitting behind a convex beveled glass. time-and-strike movement is running but the chime movement is not; the chime/silent switch is missing, and it will need repair/replacement. The strike is also silent, I assume because the chime is not working. This is an uncommon bell-chime clock and would likely retail around $400 if working.

Great sound on the four bells; the hour strike is on one bell. You can turn the Sonora chime off if you like, but don’t – its beautiful. one last July for $205 and the chimes didn’t work on that one.     Plays Westminster Chimes on 4 patented Sonora resonated bells. Sonora Chime movement ismarked, “90D”, and the 8 day Seth Thomas running movement is marked, “89 O”.Full label on the backboard. The 14-1/2 inch high case is covered withred mahogany adamantine that is in very nice condition, only a few edge-corner nicks. 4 brass feet, brass bezel and sash, heavy beveled glass over the silver dial. 6 inch dial has a few pot marks, but is much better than most of the silver dials of this type that we see. Black numerals are painted on the surface, not etched. Signed by Seth Thomas two places on the dial. Slow-Fast adjusterjust below the hand arbor, all 3 winding arbors in the dial, chime-silent lever on the right side. This one is much better than the average 4-5 bell SonoraÕs we see. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 733.

    Jul 2020 – 50 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 14” ca. 1921. This is a 4-rod Sonora chime clock that strikes Westminster chimes on the quarter hours on four rods and counts the hours by striking all four rods at once. Although the rod-strike chimes are considered inferior to the bell strike, I hear very little difference; the rods sound great. It stands 15 inches tall in dark mahogany with some craquelure to the finish, as is common with these clocks. The dial is silvered with even wear, behind a domed beveled glass. I believe the minute hand is a replacement. The clock is running and striking as expected. OVERVIEW PAGE

    Jul 2021 – #205 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Chime Clock No. 14”, ca. 1911. The No. 14 had either rods or 5 bells; this one is the 5-bell model. The 14-inch case is mahogany with just one small nick on the left side. There is a 6-inch silvered dial behind a convex beveled glass in a bright brass sash. The Seth Thomas movements are clean and shiny, but the strike and chime are stuck and need attention. I don’t think it is a serious problem. It chimes on four bells and strikes the hours on the fifth; the clock is running nicely. Can I return my clock if I don’t like it? Absolutely! Save your packing and box, you have 30 days from receipt to return it if you are unhappy. If the clock is not as described, or I missed something important and that is not evident from the pictures, I will refund your shipping costs (both ways) as well. Find another auction company that does that!

    Condition: Mahogany case is in nice condition with some minor dings; original finish has been varnished over. Silvered dial is very clean with scratches near the winding holes. Hands are original. One problem is the parts that are mounted on the rear plate that actuate the hours strike hammer are missing. The hammer is there, but the rest needs to be restored… A picture in the Tran Duy Ly’s Seth Thomas catalog shows a picture of the movement with that area showing which could aid in making the repair, or look at a friend’s Sonora. The silvered dial is pretty good with only a little tarnish and a circular scratch probably caused by the hour hand. The case is very clean, with original finish and the hands are original. The movements have been recently cleaned and are in good running/chiming order. Height 13 1/4″

    Mahogany fine figured pattern (per catalogs) and stands just a tad under 14″. The bells play Westminster Chimes every 15 minutes, or can be silenced at your discretion. This is a very good looking wood case except for a scratch on the left side (doctored with mahogany stain, not bad, could be disguised a little better) that hardly detracts but keeps the case from being perfect. Silver dial is 6″, has etched numerals, 3 winding arbors and the slow-fast arbor, shows wear which is normal on these silver dials. Bowed glass over the dial. Silencing lever on the right side. Sonora movement No. 90B, and 8 day movement No. 89AG, pendulum and key included. The clock is running, but should be serviced. The full back door has a brass cutout curtain covered with cloth, to allow the resonated bell sounds to escape the case. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 206-221.

    This clock is a cut above the average mahogany adamantine finished case. The company made about 4 slightly different styles of this model, this being the earliest and the nicest. This clock has four brass ball feet, and a near perfect 13″ high case. Flat glass in the sash and a rarely seen porcelain dial that is signed, “Seth Thomas / Sonora Chimes”. The dial is perfect, no loss of the black painted numerals or minute marks. On the original backboard is a complete paper label of the selling jeweler, and a partial ST label. The two large movements are running and striking the four resonated bells on quarter hours and hours as it plays Westminster Chimes. The running movement is marked, “89M”, the Sonora Chime movement marked, “90”. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 148-149.

    The adamantine mahogany finished case is 13″ high, 15″ wide. The surface always looks like it was just polished. We could almost call the clock perfect but there are some corner tics we will blame on Bubba. The 4 round brass feet are in place, there is a full label on the back door, one piece porcelain dial signed, “Seth Thomas, Sonora Chime”. One tiny hairline between 7 and 8. The 8 day movement and the chime movement are both clean, shining, and running. The time movement is No. 80M, and the chime movement is marked No. 90. If it weren’t for the little deficiencies we mentioned we could call this one near perfect. Ly-Seth Thomas #701.

    This clock is in very good original condition, brass never cleaned or polished, but not bad as it is. There are some very minor nicks on the corners of the base. One piece porcelain dial is signed, “Seth Thomas” and “Sonora Chimes”. 8 day Seth Thomas movement No. 89M, and Sonora movement No. 90, with 4 bells. Correct back door with a label. Case is finished in Adamatine mahogany, rusty red with black swirls. 4 nice brass feet, gold gilt metal columns. Large heavy case is 13.5″ high, 15″ wide. Way above average overall condition.     The adamantine case finish is in very good condition with some minor loss on the edges. The porcelain dial has one hairline and is chipped around the strike arbor. The hands are original. The movement is stamped 89M and the striking unit is stamped 90.

    The case is in excellent condition with some very minor surface chipping along several edges, The adamantine color is vivid. The signed porcelain dial is in very good condition with a hairline crack adjacent to the strike winding arbor. The hands are original. The signed movement is an 89M and the Sonora unit is a model 90. The case has a nice instruction sheet on the inside of the case back.

    4-bell Sonora, in excellent original condition. This is the smallest case Seth Thomas made to house their large sonora bell chime movement. Silvered dial retains original gold decorations. The adamantine case of simulated mahogany, with no damage, and shows to have received good care its whole life. Paper label has a chunk missing. Any ‘Sonora collector’ would be pleased with this clock, and it is certainly one of the cleanest clocks selling in this session. Height 9″

    5-bell chiming Westminster melody on 4 patent Sonora Resonated bells, and striking the hours on a 5th. Note this is a 3 piece set, with matching mahogany candle stands. In the period 1909-1915 Seth Thomas produced several models of candle stands, and although we cannot find this exact design pictured, they are the same mahogany finish as the clock and with the same string inlay around the base and uprights. Runs and chimes and in excellent cond. Height 13″ $450-650
