Mahogany case, 4 inches high, 9 inches long, signed porcelain dial has some slight damage at 5 oÕclock and a few faint hairlines. Beveled glass also suffered from the accident as it has a tiny flake in the beveled edge that is hard to detect. There is a Seth Thomas label on the base.Trying to run but is struggling. This one is about as good as they get, with one little exception. It is so nice you would think it had been refinished, yet you look close and the old crazing is there. It had to have resided in a house where no one smoked and they didn’t burn coal. Walnut case is 22.5″ high, no problems anywhere, full black label, factory stamp on the back -1887, perfect original glass, brass Seth Thomas pendulum that is correct for the City Series clocks. 8 day, striking hours on a Cathedral gong, and running up a storm. The exception – there is a new paper dial on the old zinc pan. What a shame. Whoever buys this nice, almost mint clock, please have the dial painted. Ly-Seth Thomas, #176.

This clock is in very good original condition, except for some flaking of the Mt. Vernon tablet (someone has painted over the rear in an effort to stabilize it). Paint loss is in the area of the tree on the right of the house. The dial, hands, case and glasses are original. There are a couple of minor scuff marks on the base. The only other shortcoming for this clock are the two smaller finials. One of them must have suffered damage to the tip and the other was shortened to match. Almost anyone with a lathe could turn new tips to add to the finials; or enjoy as is. Height 25 inches

This clock uses movement described as 9A-T in Owen Burt’s cottage clock literature, a bit more desirable than the 30 hour versions. (Note bell removed temporarily for foto of label.) Seth Thomas “Buffalo”, ca 1886.

One of the companyÕs large series of clocks named for cities. The early models, made in the l870Õs and 1880Õs, were generally made of walnut or rosewood and had very distinctive case designs. When “kitchen clocks” became poplar in the 1890Õs and later, Seth Thomas fell in lock step with other clock makers and lowered their standards on the city series line. Primarily made of oak and using cheaper pendulum bobs, bezels, etc. they made the clocks for the masses who could afford a $10 to $20 mantle clock. This walnut case has been cleaned, dial repainted, but it is all original with the fancy swirled Seth Thomas nickel pendulum, nickel gong base, and dial ring. Spindles on railing are brass and all intact. Most of a black label inside, hands are replacements. Movement is 8 day, hourstrike on the Cathedral Bell, has an alarm in place.
