    It is a clean walnut case, 27 inches high, with the original glass, Eclipse pendulum, and full label on the backboard. There is another label on the door that says, “No.P.3351”. Lyre movement is 8 day, brass , Geneva stops, striking the hours on a wire gong and alarms on a brass bell, and is running. This clock came to us without the alarm mechanism. They can be purchased from Timesavers for $11. Now has a paper dial on the old zinc pan. This would surely be a keeper if you would install an alarm and have the dial painted.

    Both names are obvious. It could well have been another of the “Giant” series as it is 24.5″ high. This case is walnut, very, very dark with an accumulation of 100 years of smoke and other pollutants. If you like original, this is the one. The dial, pendulum, glass, label, gong and bell, all original. Like so many of the balltops I have had this one also has a small label on the door, “No. S, 3621”, which I will speculate means it was made either in 1912 or 1921, as S is the 19th letter of the alphabet and Seth liked to do their dates of manufacture, backwards. The movement is 8 day, striking a coil gong, and alarming on a brass bell. Although dirty looking, it runs fine. No official mention in Seth Thomas catalogs, but Tran Duy Ly pictured it on page 479 of his last Seth Thomas book.

    (this is an uncommon Seth Thomas movement, similar to that used in the Marcy). It has a fancy walnut case in fine condition with original finish. It also has an unusually good original dial with only one missing grommet. It also has great original bronze decoration glass, original nickel plated gong base and nickel plated decorated pendulum. It also has the original black label inside in the bottom of the case in good condition. The minute hand is original, but the hour hand is replaced (needs only a common spade hand to be correct). This is a fine example of this scarce quarter striking model. Height 22 1/2″

    Made of carefully selected walnut wood, the clock is 22.5 inches high, three quarter turned columns on the front and quarter columns on the back. The columns were turned showing grooves and various thicknesses. The case is highly polished and looks like a parlor clock should. Nickel plated Seth Thomas bob, beveled and etched like only they could. Matching nickel pendulum hanger, gong base, hinges, and dial rings. Over half of the old black label remains on the base, brass beat scale, and brass strike hammers. An outstanding glass with gold design, original painted zinc dial is about as good as you could hope for in a clock this old, and particularly a Seth Thomas dial, as they always lose their paint early. Some crusty finish remains but for the most part, it has been well maintained with regular cleaning and polishing. We just do not get these quarter hour strikers (Atlas and Hecla) that are any better than this. I would think the new Ly- Seth Thomas books due out in late 1994 will value this clock upwards of $2500. Ly-Seth Thomas (1996 Book) page276.

    Condition: This clock is in excellent original condition and sure to appeal to the serious Seth Thomas collector, perhaps even someone who served time in England. This clock was an original export to the UK, and with the name Bacon, King Street, Dover, on the dial. There is an additional label in the base identifying John Bacon as a chronometer and watch-maker and goldsmith, jeweler and optician in Dover; this label is pasted over the original Seth Thomas label. Superb original tablet and damascene pendulum. Original finish is nicely waxed. An especially nice example. This is the same movement as used in the Marcy and Hecla models.     Jul 2020 – 119 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Atlanta”, 1908. A city series clock, 19.5 inches tall in walnut veneer with rosewood veneer around the front, further highlighted with gilt designs. The door glass is old with a gold stencil, the dial in a brass relief bezel is old paper with the ST name. It shows a lot of wear. The ST 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking the hours and half-hours on a cathedral gong. The pendulum bob is ST issue but shows lots of wear. is an ST label inside on the bottom, and the date is stamped on the back of the case. This is an attractive clock.

    Condition: walnut veneered case in very good condition with original finish and gilt decoration. There is a small dent on the door, not too noticeable. Paper dial has been replaced. Deeper inspection is required to reveal that this Seth Thomas movement and pendulum set up from a Bangor or Buffalo (which use a different pendulum), and then the case back covered with red flocked material to disguise the change. This is a slight variation of the Athens city series model – the door frame at the top differs from the catalog illustration by missing some arched trim. The case is walnut, nicely cleaned, 17 inches The door glass is old, the stained paper dial an old replacement; remains of the original painted dial are on the back of the dial pan. The ST 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking, the pendulum bob is ST issue, and there is an alarm (untested). There is a black label inside on the bottom and the date of manufacture is stamped on the back.

    This is a rather plain walnut case, all original finish, would improve greatly with a cleaning, stands 17″ high. Everything is original, dial with just a little flaking problem, good black label in the base, good nickel pendulum with ST embossed in the center, nickel bell on which the alarm strikes as well as the hourly strike. There is a brass dial ring as well as a brass alarm ring in the center of the dial. The only shortcoming of the clock is a piece of molding is missing above the glass, inside the door. Minimum price is reflecting the expense to repair. Ly-Seth Thomas #166.

    The 17 inches high walnut case doesn’t look like it has ever been touched, it is very dark, has crazed paint, and that presents another challenge for a refinisher. It would be a might fine case if cleaned because the nickel accessories, and probably the best, original dial, I have ever seen on a City Series clock would set this clock off perfectly. Usually the dials have been repainted by now, or should be. The Seth Thomas “Star” pendulum, on this clock, only came with the No.3 Fashion, the Nashville, and New Orleans. This is their one day model made back in the days when there was nothing else to do after dark but wind your clocks. Ly-Seth Thomas #166.

A 15.5-inch shelf clock with a beautiful mahogany or walnut veneer, with much of the veneer on the front showing a burled or flame mahogany grain pattern. These iconic clocks sold for over $600 twenty years ago. The dial glass is old and the contoured metal dial holds very old if not the original paint; it has been touched The 8-day time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking on a wire gong. There is also an alarm, not tested. There is a good Thomaston label inside. These clocks are lucky to bring $150-$250 today.

    Unlike any other “Arch Top” I have seen, this one has 2 iron bells, one for the strike and one for the alarm. I don’t see a hammer for the alarm. 16 inch burl walnut case has only a couple of miniscule chips, otherwise this case is original and near perfect. The old zinc dial is holding the paint real well, full label, old pendulum, lock, and glass. Clock and movement are like those shown in Ly-Seth Thomas No.1011-1013.

    This clock had lost part of its veneer prior to restoration, and the refinisher sanded the top arch and the front surfaces of the bottom trim and painted in the grain prior to applying the final finish. From a distance, it looks quite good, but up close you can see the restorations. The dial has been professionally repainted with aged and crackle finish and is excellent. The movement appears to be clean and running; excellent label inside case. Height 15.5 inches

    C.1913, (dated on rear), Seth Thomas Clock Co., “ARCADE”, in fruitwood with cherry finish, 18″ dial, 30-Day timepiece.

    Condition: the case has original finish, but is rubbed down nearly to the wood; original dial has some flakes and a deteriorating spot near numeral 2 where someone had put scotch tape to hold some flakes on. Heavy duty ST No. 86 double spring movement seems to run fine. Stained but still excellent label on rear of clock. Pendulum also original. For reference, see Tran Ly’s book on Seth Thomas, 3rd Edition, page 351. The Arcade was introduced in 1913 as a cheaper alternative to the Gallery model, which was sold from 1884 onwards, and expensive to produce. Interestingly the Arcade was offered in larger dial sizes than any other inside use Seth Thomas clock 18, 24, 30 and 36 inches. We have seen a 36 inch dial for sale recently for $10,000 so folks are not bashful to charge for the large size. Ht of this clock 24″

    Mahogany case is 23 1/2 inches across the front, metal dial is 18″. Key lock bezel below the 6, hinge is on top. There is a trap door underneath to access the pendulum. Case has never been cleaned, all original, and running. Ly-Seth Thomas No.580.

    Oak case is 23.5 inches across the front; original painted dial is 18 inches. Key lock bezel below 6, bezel hinges from top. For some reason someone drilled 4 small holes in center of what is a mint dial. This is a project clock; you have to find a 30 day movement, hands, etc. Complete large gallery clocks of this size are bringing $1,200-$1,600. Ly- Seth Thomas No. 580.

    The 18 inch metal dial was changed to use as an advertising clock by “Linz Bros. Jewelers”. The dial has not been repainted, just the advertising added at some later date. The clean oak case is 23.5 inch across in front. The back is an oblong box holding the No.86T movement. It is 30 day, with large double springs, Graham dead beat escapement, 120 beats, and half seconds. It has large heavy plates, resting on a heavy iron bracket from which the pendulum is also suspended. The rod is wood with a one pound brass bob. The movement is signed properly, in running order. The dial is just signed, “Made in U.S.A.”, at the bottom where is should be, and the Seth Thomas name was painted over when the “Jewelers” was added. Ly-Seth Thomas #580.

    The original painted dial is quite nice with some flaking beginning to appear at about 10 and 4 o’clock. The hands are original, but the hour hand is missing the little trim element from its center. This timepiece runs on a large double wind spring movement with dead beat escapement. Overall very good to excellent. Height 23.5 inches

    The case appears to have been finished in a dark oak stain some time ago. There is a repair (not visible) to the rectangular movement box behind the wooden bezel. The 18″ original painted dial is in very good condition with very minor flaking around the center post and some of the screw holes. The hands are original;. The glass is original. The movement is signed and indicates the model to be an 86AB. The case back has a date of August 1909 (H9091). Ht 23 1/2″.

    Dark stained oak case in an old and possibly original finish with some scratches. Original painted dial has darken a little in some areas with minor paint loss at the mounting screws, a small area at 2 o’clock and some lifting at the edge near 1 o’clock. Hands are original. “Geneva” stops are intact. Ht 24″
