Catalog Description: Seth Thomas crystal regulator, “Empire No. 25”, ca 1909, also known as the “Rough Rider” clock. 8 day, strikes cathedral gong on half hours, runs very well. Really nice porcelain dial with painted garland of flowers, bright gold gilt dial ring, 4 beveled glasses, all perfect, and 4 full columns. Imitation 2 vial mercury pendulum. The original finish was Syrian Bronze, now very dark. I don’t think it has ever been cleaned. The Roughriders were formed in 1896 by Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, using cowboys and college students. The case has been well polished, but not lacquered, so has some discoloration. The porcelain dial is perfect. One side glass has a chip missing, but can be easily replaced. The rest of the beveled glasses are fine. The hands are original. The clock is signed “A Stowell and Co.” on the dial; ST would “brand” these dials for main street department stores. Catalog Description: C.1904, Seth Thomas Clock Co., EMPIRE No. 2, brass and glass crystal regulator, 8- day with cathedral gong strike. Condition: Overall very good original condition. The case has been polished regularly and the original gold finish is absent. The base of the clock was cast out of red brass, which now gives the case a tu-tone look. (pink+yellow) The signed porcelain dial is perfect and the hands are original. This was an expensive clock in 1904, selling for $30, about the same price as a French import. Catalog Description: C.1913, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, CT, EMPIRE No. 17, crystal regulator, with 4 panes of heavy beveled glass and faux mercury pendulum. Condition: this clock came out of a home in Springfield, and the maid must have polished it every day, as the gilding is totally gone from the case, and it has turned dark brown. The porcelain dial and pendulum are nice. Movement ticks and strikes, but is dirty and will require cleaning before regular operation.
