Catalog Description: Seth Thomas, “Dayton”, ca 1886, one of the 100 plus models of the series of clocks that Seth Thomas made popular. This clock came to us as a “Toledo” model which is more commonly seen. The “Dayton” is very rare, this maybe only the second one I have ever seen. A date stamp on the back of the case is “1889”. 8 day, cathedral gong strike, replaced paper dial, full black label, correct pendulum, clock is running. There is a door on the base of this model. The latch needed repair which should have been an easy fix, but some mechanical engineer installed a magnet latch. Ly-Seth ThomasNo.187.

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas “Dover”, ca 1890, one of the poplar City Series. 21 1/2inch walnut case with perfect original glass and pendulum. 8 day movement strikes half hours on a coil gong, and alarms on a brass bell, and is running. Black label in the base with an over paste label, “Winward’s Grand Invention, Musical Double Alarm Eight Day Clocks”. I would call it anything but “Musical”. When both gongs ring simultaneously it would wake up the dead. Thank goodness there is a silencing lever on top of the case. Ly-Seth Thomas No.236.

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas Clock Co. “12 Inch Drop Octagon”, ca 1881. We often call this clock a school house or short drop clock. This one is 8 day, time only, and it is running. Dial paper was replaced long ago, now looking old. A label inside the case, correct pendulum. A pretty nice old mahogany veneer case that is 23 1/2 inches high and only has one small bruise on the case, bottom left side. A factory date stamped on the back, “1881”. Ly-Seth Thomas No.505.

Catalog Description: Seth Thomas crystal regulator “Empire No. 1000”, ca 1909. Some good and not so good things to say about this clock. Beautiful porcelain dial with painted garland of flowers around the numbers. Polished gold bezel is bright; the gold on the body of the case is dull and dirty. 4 heavy beveled glasses, 2 with tiny corner chips. 2 vial, imitation mercury pendulum and a hanging gong still bright gold. The base is green onyx; top is a piece of onyx of another color. 8-day movement strikes gong on the half hours, and runs. Ly-Seth Thomas No.327.

Catalog Description: C.1913, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, CT, EMPIRE No. 17, crystal regulator, with 4 panes of heavy beveled glass and faux mercury pendulum. Condition: this clock came out of a home in Springfield, and the maid must have polished it every day, as the gilding is totally gone from the case, and it has turned dark brown. The porcelain dial and pendulum are nice. Movement ticks and strikes, but is dirty and will require cleaning before regular operation. Porcelain dial has a single horizontal hairline crack from 7 to 3. For additional information on this model, see Tran Ly’s book on Seth Thomas and Movements, 3rd edition, Volume 1, page 242. Catalog Description: Seth Thomas Crystal Regulator, “Empire No. 306”. They don’t get any plainer or less expensive than this one. It is only 9.5″ high, has 4 very nice beveled glasses, a very good looking imitation mercury pendulum, an excellent signed porcelain dial, great sounding cathedral gong, original hands, and running up a storm.
