About the Seth Thomas “Ding Dong Strike No. 3” Clock

The Seth Thomas “Ding Dong Strike No. 3” clock, manufactured around 1913, showcases a unique and distinctive design with its case made from Brazilian onyx adamantine. This rare and exquisite piece measures approximately 14 inches wide and nearly 12 inches high, preserving a near-perfect condition despite the passage of time.

The original features of this clock include a flat glass in the sash, correct hands, and an adamantine type cream dial that bears the signature of Seth Thomas Clock Co. The dial also displays the distinctive “Ding Dong Strike” name, indicating its origin from the renowned American manufacturer.

The clock’s ornaments and sash were originally adorned with dull, gold plating, although this has tarnished over time, particularly noticeable on the mat. The clock features a large back board, two large bells similar to those found in Sonora Chime cases, and an 8-day movement that is signed by Seth Thomas. While the pendulum bob is correct, there are suspicions that the back cover may not be original.

This piece can be found detailed on Ly-Seth Thomas, page 446, providing a valuable reference for collectors interested in this unique and intriguing timepiece.
