Rosewood veneer column case is 32″ high, has real good shell columns, capitals and bases havebetter than 90 percent of the original gold. The rosewood veneer is great on thedoors, the rolling pieces on the base and the rolling top, for the most part.The very top edge of the case has been banged several times and needs a fewthin pieces of veneer patched. Some patching has been done in 2-3 flat placesbut the wrong veneer was used. The bottom baseboard flat will also need acouple of flat veneer pieces attended to. The old glasses are fabulous, almostperfect. The original dial pan has been professionally repainted and matchesthe glasses. The label beats all I have seen, just about perfect, a littlepaper loss in one weight chute and some light stain on the bottom. Clean, signed, brass movement, strung with cat gut, clock is running. Pairof old and correct weights, pendulum bob and key. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 987.

Note label has a large oil stain that has darkened the central portion, but it is still fully legible. Ht 32″

Looking face on, the rosewood veneer case is beautiful; the graining in the wood is astounding. Looking closer at the 32″ case we find a few ticks on the corners, nothing really major and shouldnÕt require an expert to do the needed repairs. The gold on the capitals and bases is rather dull and there is one chip in the left base. Both glasses are original and showing 10 percent or less paint loss. IfI were going to keep the clock I would back both glasses with blue paint. The old dial is also original and also has about 10 percent paint loss. DoesnÕt lookthat bad to me, but your call on a dial repaint. Good signed brass movement strikes a coil gong, running very well, but I would check the cords before extensive use. For some reason the left 1/3 of the label has evaporated. Enough is there to know all about the clock. For instance it is a Plymouth Hollow label, which is why I put the year made as1863, because the town name was changed to Thomaston in 1865. The old weights are not a match, but pendulum and key are old. Ly-Seth Thomas No. 986.

This is an 8 day, weight clock, strike and alarm, and is running. Strikes on a coil gong, alarms on a brass bell. A very good full label, replaced zincdial with some damage where other screw holes were made, and also damage aroundthe arbors. Dial isnÕt all that bad and could be repaired and repainted ifyou choose. The real eye catcher are the gilt columns, original and very nice.Both glasses are original, top has been rebacked, bottom has been abused. The picture of a pretty girl was partially scraped so we could see the pendulum swing. How remarkable. Rosewood case has some small veneer repairs mainlyon the door and bottom flat pieces. All in all, a very nice early clock.Ly-Seth Thomas No. 983.

This poplar metal clock has a rich gold finish that is practically all still intact and pretty bright not to have been cleaned at all. The case is 14 inches tall, original back door and American sash with beveled glass. The hinge is being held with a finishing nail which works fine and not noticeable but you may want to change. Very nice one piece porcelain dial, painted garland of flowers, signed, Arabic numerals marked boldly, minute marked on an outside ring. 8 day movement is their round plate, No. 3 15/16, signed by ST, striking a standing gong, running with a correct pendulum. These clocks are not uncommon, and identical cases have been seen with the name, “King Jewett”, made for L. B. Price.

This is an extra nice model with decorative metal ornaments; the case has been refinished to a golden color. This clock does not appear in the Seth Thomas clock catalog, however, there is a wonderful label on the back that notes that this model was made ‘expressly’ for the L. B. Price Co. of Kansas City, Mo. The tablet is original along with the pendulum. Although the dial has some stains from the stripper, this is still a very attractive clock. Height.293/4″

Jul 2021 – #152 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Kent”, ca. 1904. The Kent is a “City Series” clock, a line of clocks that was very popular with the former owner of this auction. He would often tell me that he had all but one or two very rare ones (e.g., the Louisville, which he says he named), and after he started selling off his collection he then came into possession of the rare The Kent is 14.5 inches tall in “dark old oak” with a glossy finish over the older, slightly alligatored finish. The signed paper dial is quite yellowed, but the center disk and bezel are ornately cast and bright; the glass is flat and beveled. The signed, 8-day, time-and-strike movement is bright and shiny, running strongly, and counting the hours on a cathedral gong and marking the half-hours on a nickel cup bell. Seth Thomas City Series mantle clock, “Kent”, C. 1909.

The clock was only made in dark oak, stands 14.25″ high. As happened so many times with this type clock they didn’t make them exactly alike. Each run may be different depending on materials available. This clock is original but has some features, particularly the applied pieces that are different from catalog pictures. There are not many of the Kent’s around. We haven’t seen many and for sure not enough for each collector of City Series clocks to have one. The finish and everything else about the clock is original. It has not been messed with. The paper dial, brass inner dial, brass sash, all very good. Very clean and bright, signed 8 day movement. Runs nice and strikes a standing gong. Ly-Seth Thomas #197.

C.1910, Seth Thomas Clock Co., “Jupiter” 8-day 2- wt, moon dial, bell strike, in excellent condition, with restoration.

The oak case was refinished many years ago to a medium caramel color. When the case was restored, two of the top finials were turned in mahogany instead of oak; also the circular trim on the very left of the top gallery was cut from mahogany. The dial, hands, weights, pendulum and movement are original; one top brass trim replaced on one weight. This is a rare clock and these items are important to the serious collector; however we still expect a lot of attention on this good looking clock. This lot includes a letter from the consignor describing its ownership since new. Height 59 inches. $4,000-$6,000

Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn., “Jupiter” hanging clock with a weight driven 8 day time and strike (cathedral bell) lyre movement with a moon phase dial in an open well oak case.

The case is in very good condition with a light, old finish, possibly original. There are several small areas of loss along the top right and left return molding. The original painted dial is in good condition with some fading and paint loss at the mounting holes. The original painted moon phase dial is in nice condition with age. The hands are original with a repair to the minute hand. The reeded brass weights are original. This is a scarce Seth Thomas model in very good condition. We have had only 2 sales of this model in the past 12 years.

C.1894, Seth Thomas Clock Co., “JUPITER”, 2-weight, 8-day wall clock in oak, rolling moon dial with bell strike.

Condition: the case has been nicely refinished and top left finial replaced, and door glass re-newed. The lyre frame movement is clean and in good running order. The rolling moon retains excellent original paint. The dial is also original, but with wear at the attaching holes, other scratches and wear to the chapter ring from setting the time carelessly. Hands are original, but minute hand has been repaired. Pendulum stick has also been repaired. For reference, see Tran Duy Ly’s book on Seth Thomas, 3rd Edition, pages 318-19. Ly 2004 price guide, ref 1003, is $8000. An uncommon clock in excellent condition, with only minor restoration. Ht 59″, [150cm]
