    8 day, striking a nickel bell on the hours, running fine. Matching Seth Thomas nickel pendulum and rod, and dial rings. It has a new dial pan and dial paint. Full black label inside, original glass. 24 inch walnut case was evidently very dirty and was partially cleaned. Some of the finish is lighter in color. I wouldn’t do a thing to the case, although some folks may want it refinished completely to better highlight the nice walnut wood. If there is anything replaced on this clock besides the dial, I would probably point to the urn. It may have been added in later life, if so a great piece of work. Ly-Seth Thomas No.1296.

    No doubt got its name from the urn on top and the columns on each corner. A large walnut cased clock, 24″ high, plain yet has a lot of character. The columns are grooved and above they each have their capital and ornate top. Full black label inside, excellent nickel accessories including the nickel bob with an embossed brass “ST” center, nickel pendulum rod, nickel bell, and nickel dial rings, all polished. 8 day movement strikes the bell on each hour, running very good. Glass is original, dial is replaced paper. The walnut case has original finish and is very dirty. It looks like someone thought about cleaning the case and decided it was a lot of trouble. Maybe some polish cleaner would help the case, it looks dull. The urn looks identical to all of this model I have had, but just too nice to be 120 years old, I will call it replaced.     Unusually nice clock, just a little less than six feet tall at 67″, good lookingmahogany case with distinctively grained panels of crotch mahogany, in thedoor and on the base. Seth Thomas No. 113 movement with 5 rods, spring driven, strikes Westminster chimes on quarter hours, and the number of hours. Thebonnet slides off just like the big clocks. It has cathedral windows on thesides to let the sound out. Large silver dial and silver dial ring. The numeralsare etched and all other designs are painted on. Dial is signed, “Seth Thomas”, and “Made in the USA”. The only problem I find is that the chimes are outof sequence and at least one hammer is not hitting the rod correctly. Smallproblem.     The rosewood veneered case has some veneer loss on the back edge of the bottom, the front moldings on the bottom and on the upper portion of the left side behind the dial. There is some minor paint flaking on the dial and some areas on the outer edge that have been touched up (looks pretty good). The hands are original. The gilt molding on the bottom door has been gold painted. There is a partial label inside the case. Runs and strikes robustly. Height 31Ó $325-$425

    Condition: Refinished rosewood veneered case in very nice condition with a very small veneer chip on the edge of one of the members that makeup the octagon and a couple of small chips on the back edge along the bottom. Original painted dial is exceptional for its age, and for a Seth Thomas. Original foil gilding is intact on the lower door molding. Hands and pendulum are original, but the pendulum has a large stress crack on the brass facing. Height 31 inches [78.7 cm]

    This is a very nice school clock, and mis-pictured in Tran Ly’s 1996 book on Seth Thomas. Please refer to page 150 which shows on the right a photo identified as a World. It is rather a Globe, New Model. The World is 17 inches wide and the Globe is 16 inches wide and the door is only 12.2 inches long instead of 13 inches on the New Globe; yet both are the same overall length. These are subtle differences, but I have had a proper World hanging in my kitchen since 1984. The lot selling here is a great clock with “old oak” veneer in fine shape, original dial with only small flakes near 3+11, and a fabulous label. Height 32 inches

    You can probably get by with this original dial, just dirty. The accomplished painter didn’t even remove the dial and bezel when they painted the case, therefore the bezel has paint on it also. At least not on the dial.8 day, time only movement is running. It has a good label, and a factory stamp on the back, made “1912”. Hard to tell but I suppose it is oak, 31inches high. Ly-Seth Thomas No.402.

    32 inch mahogany case is clean as a pin and retains the gold around the glass, which is still very good. “1918” stamped on the back of the case. 8 day, time only movement, is clean and running. Like most Seth Thomas dials this one has been professionally repainted and brass is polished. As clean and nice as I have had. Ly-Seth Thomas No.404.

Original gilding around lower door has minor wear; door has been relieved to cure a bind, on the inside with a knife; does not show with door closed. This exact Globe model is illustrated in the 1921-28 Seth Thomas catalog, and reproduced in Tran Duy Ly’s 3rd edition, page 322.     Jan 2020 – 35 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Garfield”, 1886. “Stately” is barely sufficient to describe this clock, 30 inches high in mahogany, with an old finish. The top surface shows more wear, but all the finials are there. The Garfield came with nickel or brass trim and most collectors prefer the dial bezel, gong mount, pendulum bob and weights to match. the catalog description from 1883 notes that it came with “Brass weights and bell nickel plated”, so matching was not a manufacturer stipulation (See Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements , Vol. 2, page 727.) Here we have all brass trim and weights with a damascened nickel bob. The dial has an old coat of paint, possibly original, that is chipping in places; the hands are correct. door glass is wavy. The signed movement is correct to this model and is running and striking without issue. black label in the bottom. Horton’s sold one last July for $1275. $1200-$1600.

This classic, weight-driven shelf clock is 30 inches high, named after the second US president to be assassinated, in 1881. The case is walnut in an old if not original finish and with a nice amount of “patina”. The glass is original, the dial repainted long ago; the hands are original, as is the pendulum and bob. The dial trim, weights, and damascened pendulum bob are nickel-plated; the weights and bob could use a bit of polish and the weights do not match but I have been assured they are Seth Thomas issue (one hook has been changed). A decent label inside on the bottom, no date on the back of the case. The movement is correct to this model and is running but would benefit from service. An impressive 30-inch mahogany case with an 8-day, weight-driven A classic, always sought-after, and the match to the equally popular, but slightly more common Lincoln. the finish is a bit worn and could benefit from a bit of rejuvenation, whether it is a fresh varnish or just a good waxing. The door glass is old and likely original. The dial is likely an old repaint as it lacks the ST logo; the hands are correct. The ST A-frame movement is signed and running, striking the hours on the cathedral gong. The pendulum bob is not correct. The trim is nickel but the weights, which are not ST weights, are brass. I can live with brass weights, but the bob has got There are the required four pulleys but no label and no date on the back. Can’t have everything, but you can have this clock with the right bid. The dial has been professionally repainted. Finish on the case is original, hardware intact, and with good pattern on pendulum. The are the remains of a label in the bottom of the case.     ST made the Lincoln and Garfield models to commemorate the only two Presidents to be assassinated at that time. The case styles are slightly different, but behind the door the internal parts are near identical. We have sold 2-3 dozen of the Lincoln/Garfield clocks and I want to tell you the factory did not use the same equipment on every clock. Sometimes you may have brass weights, a nickel pendulum, brass dial rings, or vice versa. 125 years ago the companies were not hung up on making every clock the same. This clock is correct and all original except the original metal dial has been repainted and the case cleaned and polished. The Garfield is 29″ high, made of walnut, and has a damascened pendulum, correct weights, hands, and all other accessories. The movement is 8 day, running, and striking on the heavy duty Cathedral gong. Ly-Seth Thomas, pages 726-727.

Nice damascene pendulum. Weights are original. The original backboard is missing its very back layer of veneer, and some ragged edges of the bits left.     Condition: Walnut case is in exceptional condition with original finish. Original painted dial has some minor paint flaking, but is otherwise very nice condition for a Seth Thomas dial. The feet on this clock, while otherwise original, are upside down and may have come from the factory that way or someone reversed them; should not affect the value.     Walnut and walnut veneered case in original finish has some veneer loss on the base. The feet are currently mounted upside down. Original painted dial has a small chip and some surface stains. Original hands and pendulum with some loss to the nickel plating. The crenellated parapet top has some merlons missing on the left side and one on the right. Brass cased weights appear original.

    Condition: generally very good+ restored condition with original dial, counter-weighted hands, mov’t and pendulum. The oak case has been attractively refinished to a honey color. The original dial perhaps got moist at one time and there is the outline of the hour hand, in a shadow at about 9:30, and a couple of minor flakes. This model was offered from 1884 through 1924, and details may be found in Tran Ly’s book on Seth Thomas, 3rd Edition, Vol 1, pages 340-341. Current Ly price guide $4750, if perfect.     the case retains its original finish, nicely rubbed down. There is a minor repair to outer step on front of case, refixing the molding. There is an age split in case back. The dial is in excellent condition and retains its original paint with a very subtle overcoat and the hands are original. The movement has recently been cleaned and has been keeping time on the consignor’s wall. This is an excellent example in original condition. The last example we sold in mahogany brought $4600 plus 10% Buyer’s Premium in our April 1, 2003 auction.
