    Thomaston, CT, . This 8-day mahogany mantle clock was made for Shreve, Crump and Low Co., Boston. The clock still has its old crackled finish and a pretty inlay and brass feet. The porcelain dial has a small flake in the margin above 1 that can be dealt with. A very pretty clock. Height 10 inches $100-200

    There is a full label on the bottom, too dark to read. The case is 17 inches wide and almost perfect except for some small bruises. Like most all clocks in this big collection it has been cleaned inside and out, gilt metal feet and ornaments repainted, gilt metal bezel and dial cleaned. 8 day strikes a cathedral gong, running. The only negative is there is no back cover. I am sure it is in one of the boxes of parts and pieces. Ly-Seth Thomas #1203 or others very similar.

    Condition: this lot came for a clock shop and has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good running order. It was difficult for a retail sale, as there is a small repair to the porcelain dial outside 10 (chip is glued back in place). The case is excellent with original finish and nice patina. A pleasant clock for the beginning Seth Thomas collector. In his 3rd Edition Seth Thomas book, Ly prices this clock at $450, our estimate allows for the dial. Height 10 inches

I can’t find an exact match in Ly’s book on Seth Thomas Clocks, but this most closely approximates the Engine Lever shown for 1935. The nickel-plated case is 8 inches in diameter with a 6-inch silver-plated dial; the bezel is hinged with a push-button to open. It has a signed Seth Thomas No. 10 double-wind, time-only lever movement that includes a seconds bit. The dial is signed “Geo. J. Adams”, likely a retailer who ordered the clocks. The nickel case needs polishing and the silvered dial as well. It is running.

    Jul 2020 – 221 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Engine Lever” ca. 1910. I believe this is an early (WWI) vintage ship’s clock, only 4.75 inches in diameter with a 3-inch silvered dial in a brass case with a screw bezel and a seconds bit. It is smaller than any ship’s clock shown in Ly’s books on Seth Thomas clocks. Engine lever means time only, screw bezel indicates waterproof. The dial shows scratching and oxidation and is labeled “U.S. Navy Boat Clock”. I did not inspect the movement, but it is running.

    Condition: Cast metal case in very nice as found condition with much of the original gilding intact. Original porcelain dial is perfect and the hands are original. Beveled glass door panels are perfect. Movement is signed, however the last person to clean it punched every bushing area profusely (Aug, ’91, shop in Medway, MA). Amazingly ticks and strikes. Height 13 inches [33 cm]
