This model might not please everyone, as it has been completely re-veneered, top to bottom, and there are some “waves” in the veneer. Any one who has tried veneering knows that it is a tough job. The dial has been professionally painted, and with new “S-T” hands. Retains a great Plymouth Hollow label. Just cleaned, running and ready to enjoy. Height 9 inches

The Corsair is distinguished by its 5.75-inch diameter brass case adorned with a screw bezel and a silvered dial. The time spring on the ship’s bell lever movement may be disconnected or broken, preventing it from running, although the strike function could not be tested.

A label bearing the name Talley Industries can be found on the back of the clock, along with a key for winding and setting. Interestingly, the Corsair was marketed as “A genuine sea-going ship’s bell striking clock,” a feature that may seem puzzling to landlubbers like myself but involves the clock striking random patterns, presumably mimicking the rhythm of ship’s bells.

Jul 2021 – #249 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Corsair”, ca. 1962. “A genuine sea-going ship’s bell striking clock”, as described in the catalog. Ship’s bells, if you are a landlubber like me, make no sense whatsoever and just seem to strike random patterns at any time. The 5.75-inch case is in bright chrome with a silvered dial, and everything looks like new. The dial screws on and off to set the time and has a waterproof seal. The 7-jewel 8-day movement is running and striking at will. not have a proper key for the clock but will include a 5-pronged winder that will work. There is a name sticker on the back, and both the case and dial are signed. The Corsair had an optional base for an additional $10.95 if you did not plan on mounting it on your boat. There is some wear to the finish along the edges of the case, and some dirt on the top but overall it is in great shape with nice patina; note it may have been brushed over with some reddish shellac long ago, as it does have a mahogany look to it. The porcelain dial and beveled glass are perfect. The movement is properly signed, and was recently overhauled, and is in good running order. Note this is a skeletonized version of their round movement that we have not seen before (both front and rear plates are cut out). The hands are original. This clock is ready to take home and enjoy. 10.75 inches high case of dark mahogany, never cleaned. Some minor wood damage, easily correctable. There are plated metal caps and bases on the half columns and 3 other applied metal pieces on the front. The movement is 8 day, half hour cathedral gong strike. Signed round movement, outside count, correct pendulum, running. 4 inches cream porcelain dial has a chip at the hand arbor, and numerous hairlines extending out from the hand arbor. Beveled glass in the beaded sash. This clock books for over $500 if in very good condition.

Jan 2022 – #17 Antique American Clocks Seth Thomas “Concord”, 1887. A 22-inch case with an old finish and good patina. The door glass is old/original; the dial appears to be paper, varnished over. The hands are correct and there is a ST pendulum The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking on a cathedral gong. The date of manufacture is stamped on the back and there is an unreadable black label on the inside base. This is an attractive clock in the “city series”, with its only shortcoming the incorrect upright finials on the sides of the door at the bottom.

Another of the early models when Seth was making very nice parlor clocks, not kitchen clocks, like everyone began making in the late 1800’s. This walnut case is 22 1/2 inches, with a lot of unusual carvings, top to bottom. Note the acorns on the lower finials. Original finish, case is complete. It sat too close to a lantern or fireplace at some time, 2 of the 4 finials are slightly scorched, bottom left the worse. Some sanding and staining should put it right again. 8 day, striking a cathedral bell, running strong. Nickel accessories, bob, gong base, dial ring. Original black label on the base. This model is very poplar with the City Series collectors. Ly-Seth Thomas No.175.

Has good design and probably difficult to make. Has the top of the line nickel pendulum, dial ring, gong base, door lock, etc. 8 day, strike and alarm, and running. Alarms on a nickel bell and strikes a cathedral gong. Black label in the base, original glass. A good repainted dial is the only change in the clock. “1887” factory stamp on the back of the case. I collected City Series for many years and probably had 8-10 of this model, but never had one this nice. Other than one small sliver off the left bottom of the base, it is near perfect. Even the dial is clean, black label in the base, and a great nickel pendulum. 8 day strike and alarm, strikes on a cathedral bell. The alarm system is intact. 22 1/2 inch walnut case is stamped on the back, “1885”. The outstanding feature of the clock is the glass with the fish. If I were going to start another City Series collection I would start with this one. Ly-Seth Thomas No.175.

Big 8 day Seth Thomas movement with Geneva stops, strikes a cathedral gong on half hours and hours. Very nice painted dial with flowers in the corners. The mahogany case is 17″ high, repairs to one scroll ear, full turned columns and finials. Tablet is original but flaking. It is identical to those pictured in Ly-Seth Thomas, page 335. In good condition these are bring $500.

Condition: Very good original condition. Retains untouched finish, good label (with wear from throwing the key into the case), xlnt original 6″ dial and gilt glass decal, also nickel plated damascene pendulum. There are some streaks of the original finish that have come off. Facing the clock, the right font foot has some old damage, however the foot can be rotated and it will never show. Condition: Rosewood veneered case in fair condition, but with veneer missing on the cornice, base and some of the flat areas and now finished in a dark, muddy finish.
